Lovely hotel

The location is great for exploring Gruyère. As others mentioned there is no parking at hotel, a short walk up a cobblestone hill from a paid parking lot of 10CHF/d if parking between hours of 8:30a-6p. Since we left early and returned late we didn’t have to pay that. The day we explored the castle we just paid 3 CHF for an hour and a half at the meter. There is no check in reception. It was confusing to realize we had to go to restaurant and ask someone there for help. They were friendly when they did. Small elevator if needed. Also as others mentioned there is no AC. We had windows open but was still warm to sleep. There was one fan, should be 2 (one for each window). Also the delivery trucks start early during week and makes it loud w windows open. As someone also mentioned there was a brightly lit promotional fridge in the room. Make sure to plug it in as soon as you get there if you want to use. I used my coat over it at night to avoid the fluorescent lighting. I was happy to have it for the bit of food we had. Missed having a freezer for our ice packs for our day travel food bag. I couldn’t find a confirmation. I emailed and they were very responsive, sending confirmation quickly and answering any questions.

We’ve traveled all summer, and our meal at the Hotel de Ville was perhaps the best we had. The local trout and the quiche were truly exceptional. The hotel has a great location, but service and amenities are subpar. (The staff is as nice as can be. They just don’t seem to have much idea as to what guests expect from an experience standpoint.) Pillows were awful. Half a roll of toilet paper for a family of four. TVs and internet that wouldn’t work. Again, the staff was excellent and very apologetic, but they need a manager to come in and get things together for their guests. Next time, we’ll stay across the street and just have dinner at Hotel de Ville.

Really bad experience for an expensive hotel. Our room was boiling hot and the pillow was very flat. There were flies everywhere. We had dinner there and had to move tables because there were so many flies. The next table was a little better but still spent much of the meal swatting them away and trying to get them with the menu. For the breakfast, there were flies crawling all over the bread that was out. Besides that, the selection was the worst of any hotel we have stayed out so far and there was no alternative milk option at all. I did complain to the lady working and her response was, "I understand" but no resolution offered. I would never stay there again.

Really enjoyed our stay at Hotel de Ville (Apartment 12.) Was beautifully appointed and super comfortable for our family of three. Views from the apartment are picture-perfect, enjoyed coffee on the balcony in the morning (and could have hosted a dinner party for 8 with with well-appointed kitchen.) Streamed a movie after enjoying the day touring town.

Lovely place in the medieval old city. Would recommend. Breakfast could be a bit better, but that wouldn't stop me from coming back.
