I really loved this hostel, so I decided I absolutely had to write a long review to recommend it to everyone!
First off, the overall environment and facilities – you can tell a lot of thought went into the decor. It's mostly wood, with a very regular, well-laid-out design, and plenty of spots to relax. I even snagged one of their free stamps on my way out, making up for not getting any in Guilin, though I didn't have time to linger in those areas this trip. The hostel is super clean; even the little nooks and crannies are dust-free, which is great for germaphobes. The rooms are well-designed too. The six-person rooms have private bathrooms, plus there's a shared bathroom and two extra toilets, so you never have to worry about long queues. I was initially worried about mixed-gender rooms, but both the rooms and lockers have smart locks, so it felt very secure. The bedding was clean and comfortable. The only minor issue was that the bed curtains let in a bit of light, but I was so tired from sightseeing that I fell asleep quickly anyway, so it wasn't a big deal.
Then there are the people. The staff members, both the guy and the auntie, are really nice. They help with luggage and show you to your room. If you have too much luggage, they'll suggest leaving it at the front desk to avoid confusion. The owner's WeChat Moments (social media) are also very heartwarming and interesting; they share lots of tips, sweet little anecdotes, and recommend local eateries. It feels very lively, haha! Oh, and you can also ask the owner for a custom-made Guilin travel guide that covers food, accommodation, and transportation.
नाचीय भी बढ़िया है। As soon as you step out, you're on Shijiayuan Food Street. I tried Guilin rice noodles, Hainan Qingbuliang, buckwheat cakes, taro cakes, and mugwort mochi – and there was so much more I didn't get to try! You can ride an e-scooter to nearby attractions, and it's super close to Guilin Station, which is great if you know how to ride one! Also, I highly recommend going to the 'You Lai Rice Noodles' nearby for their braised pork noodles. No queues, cheaper, more toppings to choose from (especially the refreshing cucumber shreds to cut the spice), and air conditioning – that's a big plus! I found out about this place from the hostel's Moments feed~
This was my second hostel on my first solo trip, and it was so good! It's going to be hard to go from luxury to frugality now, haha. If it weren't for the difficulty of getting high-speed rail tickets, I really would have changed my itinerary and extended my stay for a few more days. I'll definitely stay here again next time!
Attaching a candid photo: Waking up in the morning and looking out the window, the sunlight streaming through the leaves, casting fragmented, dappled shadows on the white wall opposite – it was truly healing~
