Santa Maria Hotels with Gym

The best hotel in the whole island of Sal, except for Riu, is Hilton. Unfortunately, there is no Riu at the time of booking, but Hilton is very new, the decoration is very beautiful, and the facilities in the room are very modern. The hotel swimming pool is very large, the beach is outside, the greening is very good, the photo is beautiful, but the room is a little far from the beach, only half of the sea view room.

I was very apprehensive about this hotel based on reviews that I had seen prior to arriving on December 5th 2024. They were totally wrong. The hotel rooms are a bit dated (wooden furniture) however the rooms were cleaned spotless everyday. The 3 restaurants on site were beautiful. They have a Chinese style one, a steak house one and more of a fine dining one. Previously when staying in 5 star hotels you’re usually allowed to eat at the restaurants once during your stay, but at Funana I downloaded the app and was able to book unlimited reservations, if available. This was an excellent perk👌🏽. The spa on site was second to none and the jacuzzi and steam room were my daily ritual to myself for well-being. All you need to do was book a 30 minute slot via telephone from your room to the spa and that’s it. The Sian was not working whilst I was there but the steam room is basically unlimited. The 30 minute time slot was more for limited spaces in the jacuzzi. Staff are happy to accommodate though. Pool area, lots of beds for everyone and 2 huge pools to keep the kids entertained and also for the aqua sports. Again on the app you get the itinerary of everything that is on from, bingo, water polo, soft archery, Pilates, Zumba, yoga and that’s not even half. Now for the entertainment - This hotel stood out for me as the huge stage captivated everybody every night with a different show. Magician, African show, comedy, dancers. They also alternate party nights on a Friday. Neon Party and White party. Thy when it turns into one big hotel party and people from surrounding hotels can come in and join. They also had karaoke and Kahoot! (A quiz) alternatively. I loved the quiz’s! You all download the QR code to join and results are on the screen on stage. 10/10 for food and entertainment and politeness of staff. Lots of family’s, young and old and a good mix of people and ages overall. It also has a nightclub on site for anyone who wants to party until 3am. Also for all nighters - a sports bar that’s open 24 hours for a drink or some snacks type foods. Did the catamaran trip via Elvis who was based just outside the hotel on the way to the beach, which is at the back of the hotel. Also did the full island tour privately which included the salt mines, capital Espardo and kite, shell beach. Get taxis to Santa Maria or literally walk 10 mins. Lovely cafes and atmosphere everywhere. Very very safe to walk around day or night alone.

After a long flight we arrived to find our room was not ready, we had to wait 3 hours which is really unacceptable as they knew what time we were arriving. Other than that we had a fabulous holiday. Room was clean, bed comfy. Clean towels every day. Pool area was clean, pool bar had plenty of food and drinks available from morning till 8pm. Restaurant had a good variety of food available. I would recommend this hotel and even though it was a bit far from the beach and town I would visit again.

Can’t complain! Was a good beautiful hotel with plenty of food and drinks for all guests! Very easy to get there from the airport and everyone speaks English if you don’t speak the native language or similar. Most requests are done via their handy app which is easy to navigate and all inclusive is true to the name! You only pay for anything extra such as treatments in the Spa or items from the shop located on site otherwise everything else is included in the cost of your stay! I would have preferred more options for the 24hr “snack/food option” but this was only used out of hours so not many times for me.

Have stayed before and gave in 4* Was bit disappointed this time Paid extra for pool view as last time was kept awake by Pirate disco. Were initially shown to top floor room directly opposite disco. We asked to be moved and were given a room by the pool. This smelt of damp and there was a large patch of mould on the wall. The toilet leaked water from the back. There was not hot water for the full week. The sunbeds were all reserved by 8am-luckily few guests knew about the upstairs terrace which was great. Breakfast was very good but chaotic constantly running out of everything. The evening meal was ok but service was terribly slow-the poor water was rushed off his feet doing everything. We ate out the other nights and there are loads of good restaurants in 2 mins walk Its basically a decent value hotel with great staff and a fab location 3mins from pier and beach--would I go again ?? --probably. If you want 5* you can probably get in an AI out of town --but you will miss so much.

Room. On block 4 near the pool. Room was ok. They need updating with a lick of paint. I didn't think I would hate the open bathroom so much but I did hate it. Room was cleaned to a satisfactory standard. No dressing table. I hate a room without somewhere to sit down and put my face on. The corridor and stair areas were grotty. Food. I liked it, my husband was not impressed. The soups were great. No bad stomach's. Pool area. Get up early if you want a bed. I watched people going down before 6am and witnessed bed wars. Very sad. The beds were filthy. The mattresses need changing urgently on the sunbeds. Beach. Went once. It's ok. Be prepared for the local sellers. Bars. Not enough seating outside. This was a massive problem. After dinner you want to sit and have a drink. We sat by the front door alot as there was nowhere to sit near the bar. Weather. Hot and windy. This is normal for Cape Verde. Spa. Nice. Had a massage and a facial. Staff. Very good. Always cheerful. Overall. I wouldn't return unless I got a bargain. My husband certainly wouldn't. I have been to 3 hotels now in Cape Verde. Stick to the palaces if you want 5 star. I would give this a 4 at best.
