We had a wonderful time here. Warm welcome and lovely huts to stay. We went with the people of the village who also helps in the resort for walks to show there village, and explane abouth the nature, way they live etc. We loved this walks They also cooked together good meals, and if you want you good look or help. And we had the best coffee ever

Fabulous visit to the Elephant Watch accommodation We were looked after by an enthusiastic and welcoming staff who were always keen to make our short stay memorable. The rooms are comfortable and different from most of the accommodation we have stayed at being open to air with large blinds and breezes cooled us overnight. We were lucky to go to the local lake and sat quietly watching the bird life when a herd of 8 wild elephants appeared from the scrub for a drink 100 meters away from us. Their visit was inspiring and much more exciting as we were staying not far away... The staff at the stay were so nice and the stay is organised and supports a local village so the meals were from locals, the property looked after by locals and this was refreshing. We also did the half day bike ride which was an easy ride around local roads seeing the broom factory, a dance school and oil extraction prior to a quick cooking lesson. We stayed only one night but would have stayed longer.

This is a very special experience. Staff have been recruiting among locals - and they all seem to love it. Owner is former corporate consultant who has chosen to give the area in return to the Elephants. You sleep in towers designed to give you a chance to sleep outside but in comfort. It’s a great idea and one really do see and sense nature. We also enjoyed a great bike tour to local villages with heaps of beautiful nature. Highly recommend if you want to have a special time.

Great experience at the Elephant Watch Hut! We are not adventurous at all, so we were quite scared to sleep in a place with so many animals and insects. Keep in mind that you’re sleeping in the nature, so birds/bats/gekko’s/any animal can just come in and give you a visit in the Hut. It was a great experience, for us probably a once in a lifetime experience as we aren’t adventurous! But definitely something you should experience once in your life. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they even brought us coffee at 05.30 in the morning when we got up to try to watch elephants. The food is nice and cooked by the locals, definitely better than in most restaurants/hotels. Really nice how there was a variety of veggies dishes. We didn’t see elephants at the hut unfortunately but the staff took us for a ride in the evening, we saw many elephants that night. It was my husband’s birthday during the stay at the Elephant Watch. And they gave a nice birthday cake and sang a song for him. That was a really nice gesture! Three small tips: - Some plug to charge devices (phone), maybe one that runs on a solar panel; - The metal box attached to the inside part of the bathroom door gets in the way when you walk in- and outside the bathroom. - It would be a great idea to alert the guests that there is an elephant close by, through signals or something else?

We had a fabulous stay at Elephant Watch Hut. It is a beautiful + relaxing place, immersed in nature + away from other tourists. Buddy is lovely, helpful, charismatic and ensures visitors have a truly authentic time. Plus many of the local community are involved from preparing meals (a feast) giving cookery lessons, guiding bike tours, taking guests swimming etc. Buddy even arranged a cricket match with players from the local village which was fun. Needless to say the Sri Lankans were much better than us! Elephant watch hut is perfectly located in the ‘elephant corridor’ - elephants wandered past our huts during the night and we saw many elephants during the night drive. Definitely visit! We can’t wait to return

We had an amazing stay at EWH. Bali and his whole team were excellent. The accommodations are very comfortable and equipped with care. We had the chance to observe the elephants several times during our stay, whether at the edge of the lake near the camp, and even directly from our hut. Bali had organized a whole bike tour for us to discover the village and various activities in complete immersion. These memories will forever be etched in our hearts. We and our 4 children highly recommend staying there. The icing on the cake: the food, all local, was divine and they were able to adapt to our specific diet. Cheer! True luxury!

A wonderfully unique venue with lots of character. You feel like you are living in the trees. And the community connection is really special. The owner was welcoming and very interesting. Be sure you know it is rustic as described. And we wouldn’t have changed this experience for anything. We also loved the food. And we like the way this venue supports the community and the environment in many ways.

Elephants often appear here!! Finally 2.5 years after booking (thanks to Covid ) we were able to experience this local family run project close to Habarana. A short stroll with our hosts led us to baby elephants grazing on water lilies in the lagoon and me collecting discarded peacock feathers . Sleeping upstairs in the hut was so restful, enjoying the warm breezes under the mosquito net and waking to birdsong was unforgettable. When it was a little humid during the day the plunge pool was very clean and refreshing. If like magic watermelon and fresh fire roasted cashews just arrive .. the hosts just know !! Our curries were prepared by the families and the fish and chicken cooked on the fire beside us. Demonstrating and participating in learning some of the secrets to a perfect sambal was a delight .Wonderful times dining under the stars . We took a guided bike ride through the village beside rice paddies to visit our hosts families and experience a local dance school. Our much anticipated stay exceeded our expectations . I could not recommend more a stay here knowing that you are helping local families. A definite SriLanka highlight not to be missed .
