Hakodate Yunokawa Onsen Umi to Akari／Hewitt Resort Reviews

The hotel is right by the sea, with the ocean just across the road. On the 12th-floor rooftop, there's an infinity pool with stunning sea views. Soaking in the hot spring while enjoying the sea breeze was absolutely fantastic. We booked a room with dinner and breakfast, both served buffet style. The selection was vast, with plenty of seafood. Upon check-in, guests were asked to choose their dining times, which was a good way to manage crowds. There aren't many attractions around the hotel, making it perfect for a pure hot spring and gourmet food experience.

The hotel is located near the bus stop to the airport and city center. The breakfast and dinner buffet is amazing with lots of varieties. Dinner has crab and also tempura freshly fried. The infinity onsen pool is also an amazing view to the ocean.

Excellent value, exceeding all expectations! The entire hotel is brand new. The rooms are huge and very spacious. Both breakfast and dinner offer unlimited salmon roe and tuna paste. The hot spring facilities include an open-air bath directly overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and private onsen are available for less than 200 RMB an hour.

Very nice hotel with amazing buffet line for both breakfast and dinner. However the downside is tht the hotel located a bit away from town. The onsen is nice too

The room was huge. Outdoor onsen was super comfortable. Buffet spread was awesome. It was so delicious that you keep going for more servings. Food were freshly made and often replenish. The hotel service staff were also polite and welcoming. There were welcoming drinks and kombu soup at lobby. Our hotel is right in front of bus stop from airport so its super convenient and you don’t need to drag your luggage too far. The botanical garden is across the street. You can see monkeys in the park too.

The hotels in the Yunokawa Onsen area are generally quite average, and Umi to Akari, which is a Four Points by Marriott, is no exception. However, its price is double what you'd expect. Perhaps I booked too last minute. To be honest, for this price, I'd choose other, higher-end options, and even taking a taxi there to enjoy the hot springs would be more cost-effective. This hotel does offer day-use hot spring access. Here's my experience from a few perspectives: 1. **Hygiene:** You generally don't need to worry about hygiene in Japanese hotels, and this place is no different. 2. **Dining:** I opted for the one-night, two-meal plan, and after checking in, I realized it was the worst decision. The food quality was truly average. Although there was a lot of seafood and unlimited crab legs, it was just… mediocre. I ate one meal and never went back. I'd rather walk across the street to "Ichimonji" for Hokkaido ramen 🍜. Coincidentally, it was a Japanese holiday, and the breakfast queue was unbelievably long 🤪. 3. **Clientele:** This hotel primarily caters to tour groups. Buses kept pulling up, dropping off loads of tourists, if you catch my drift. 4. **Accommodation:** The bed and pillows were really uncomfortable. I'll spare you the details... 5. **Hot Springs:** Clean, and the quality of the hot spring water was good. It was slightly salty, and my skin felt silky smooth after bathing. There weren't many Chinese guests, and everyone was very particular about hot spring etiquette, maintaining personal space. This was a definite plus (especially with so many tour groups staying there).

Great dinner and breakfast buffet

It was a great stay at the hotel even though it is not very near to the main tourist area. Overall very pleasant experience with all the facilities provided and small gifts in the suite room. Will definitely go back again for next visit to Hakodate..

Our room was incredibly spacious, featuring a separate large bed and a traditional tatami room within the suite. It felt very open, and each day we could see little monkeys bathing in the tropical botanical garden across the way from our window. This Japanese hotel was incredibly relaxing, with a well-thought-out layout that definitely surpasses many five-star hotels in China, like the Park Hyatt Guangzhou we stayed at later – truly a 'fighter jet among rubbish.' While not luxurious, the meticulous design details made our stay exceptionally comfortable. The food was excellent; despite the crowds, everything was well-organized, and we never had to wait long. Every night, we enjoyed soaking in the hot spring to the sound of the ocean waves, followed by incredibly delicious drinks. The relaxing experience in Hakodate far exceeded that in Sapporo. The only minor drawback is that the hotel isn't directly on the beachfront, which explains why it's much more affordable than nearby places like Hanatsuki or Wakamatsu. It's mostly Japanese guests here, with no international tour groups. Plus, there's a washer and dryer on the top floor.

Their dinner buffet is perfect for seafood lovers! They serve sashimi, crab legs, prawns, tuna, salmon, fish roe, and crab paste. There's a great balance of savory dishes and desserts—not an overwhelming variety, but just the right amount. Excellent value for money! The onsen was lovely, too. I stayed at another hotel in Noboribetsu 登別later that was way more expensive, much older, and super disappointing in comparison.

Everything was great except for the check in time. It was a bit of long line and took us more than 15 minutes to check in. Wish they had auto check-in kiosks. Dinner and breakfast buffet was great even though it was packed! Everyone working in this hotel was very professional.

The price was really good, the service was excellent, and the breakfast buffet was plentiful. The hot springs on the top floor were also very relaxing.

One of the best hotel we ever stayed in Japan. Buffet dinner was superb..scallop and unlimited snow crab provided by hotel. Onsen is top especially the outdoor pool which overlooking the sea. Must stay if anyone plan to go Hakodate

The hotel was excellent and very affordable. Both dinner and breakfast were quite good. The open-air hot spring on the rooftop offered stunning sea views, and with snowflakes falling on my face while I was soaking, it truly felt like an authentic Hokkaido experience.
