This hotel is a historic property set in an iconic setting. We stayed in the Forest Section which features large, comfortable rooms that were a little dark, the bathroom lighting could be improved. Here is my issue. We arrived around 1:15 and we’re told that we could check in at 3:00. We had lunch in their cafe ( 50$) and asked again about an hour later if we could have early access. The very polite desk clerk replied “ Yes, for $70 dollars “. Astounded , I countered that we were departing early 2 days later, and he reduced the amount to $35. Now here is where communication becomes an issue: I continued the “are you kidding me?” and he kept bowing. I thought the issue was settled. That night and the next we ate at their lovely restaurants, French and the Cascade. Food and service was superb. With wine we spent about $900. Check out was early, and my husband didn’t really examine the bill. When we were back in our free early access room in Tokyo I noticed the $35 charge. I contacted the hotel’s customer service and they confirmed the charge. So, what about customer hospitality? I have NEVER been charged an early access fee for an hour. They have been times when we patiently waited for a room to be readied, and never demanded a rebate. It is all part of the guest/host agreement, I think this is probably a corporate decision by the Fujiya Group. Rethink your mission, guys, make guests feel wanted!

Hakone yumoto
On Friday, I had a break, so I hurriedly booked a plan for staying without meals. It is a mountain room in the pond building, within 1 Person 1 10,000 yen. In the evening 17 I arrived at half past half, but the shops near Hakone Yumoto Station were almost closed. The correct answer was that I was procuring side dishes in the basement of the department store in Shinjuku. The convenience store was open. There are liquor stores and Lawson near the inn. The garden was an invisible room, but it was wide 々 and the scenery was good and I could see the mountains. The cleaning was well done. The futon is a style that you lay yourself, but I was grateful that you were prepared for a split, plate, and glass, probably because of the consideration for guests staying without meals. Coffee and tea were also set. It was good that the large communal bath and the bath in the room were both hot springs. The room was a unit bath, but I didn't really care. The next morning I took a walk in the large garden. I was able to relax. Hakone Yumoto is close to 80 minutes from Shinjuku, and I think it is an affordable plan for train fares and accommodation plans for inns of this class. I want to go to stay again when I have time.

Hakone yumoto
This hotel is a bit hard to reach by public transport. There is a bus that stops closeby, but there is also a train, however, after that you have to walk for 20 minutes and the road can be quite steep in some parts. In the vicinity, there are some convenience stores and restaurants. The town of Hakone is beautiful and located close to mount Fuji. We had a lovely ryokan-style suite with twin beds. Everything was very clean and comfortable, including the pillows. Breakfast is buffet-style and offers both European and Asian food. There are both a public onsen and a private one. Staff is very friendly and speaks English very well.

Lake Ashi
We met 2 staff at restaurant there that were not cheerful and giving us a poker face! They even urge us to finish our breakfast when we just started for 15 mins, saying that just 15 more mins were allowed. The female staff standing at the front desk of restaurant looks like she was suffering and unhappy about her job, without any reasons, we have no clue why she acted that way. The food provided in both dinner and breakfast buffet are just so so and not much to choose from. The view from the room is excellent as the location itself is in front of the lake, the room is spacious and clean! However, with such service, I will not come back and not recommended to others, there are more options in Hakone in similar price.

Gora/Sengokuhara
I was taken care of to relax on a trip for about a year and a half. All are inn with 10 rooms with hot spring baths. The room I stayed in is a room called ”katakuri” on the second floor. It consists of two Japanese and western bedrooms, and the bath in the room is semi open-air and is a source. The drinks provided in the room were free including alcohol. There was also a coffee mill and coffee beans, and I enjoyed the fresh coffee. The meal was given in a private room. When I stayed, I was able to correspond to room meals by corona. It was great to know that dinner breakfast was also made politely, and it was very impressive on both sides of appearance and taste. Dinner is from 5:30 or 7 o'clock, breakfast is from 8:00, 9:00 and 10:00. From check-in at 15 o'clock to check-out at 12 o'clock the next day, I enter the bath of the source at my pace, drink my favorite at my pace, and eat the best dishes when I get time I was able to spend my time calmly. I thought it was good to choose a travel inn for a long time. It is recommended in a wonderful inn.
