Hakuba Umitoyama provides a well-located, budget-friendly stay with adequate bedroom sizes, hot showers, and cozy decor, alongside convenient ski storage, a car parking spot, and a limited continental breakfast. Ths staff are English-speaking and helpful, offering luggage storage and assistance with reservations. Despite the advertisement as a hotel, this property resembles a hostel with shared bathrooms, limited to two toilets and four showers for all guests, the latter of which had privacy limited only to a curtain. The building suffers from incredibly creaky floors and thin walls, leading to noise issues. Room keys are flimsy and easy to lose, and the cleanliness under beds is lacking with old stinky socks and empty cans. The beds themselves are worn and uncomfortable, likely to roll you off the sides. Despite no prior notices, BYO drinks are not allowed in the common area, pushing guests towards the hostel's overpriced alternatives. There is no access to kitchen amenities. The heating system in the bedroom is either too hot or off. Notably, the owner's rudeness and strict enforcement of undisclosed rules significantly marred our experience, making us feel like our existence was a nuisance. In conclusion, while Hakuba Umitoyama meets basic needs at a low cost, its drawbacks, especially in hospitality and amenity access, make it a last-resort option. I would not recommend staying here.
