Dreadful. I've seen reviews before where people have said 'if I could give it zero I would'. So dissapointing for a Best Western. Admittedly I've not stayed in one for a while and maybe they have gone down a bit but this was pretty shocking. Where to start, well, the parking wasn't exactly as advertised because for a hotel of this size it was pretty shocking. We got there around 5pm and were told where the free parking was, and then about the other parking, and advised, if we needed to park elsewhere just do it for an hour as the 'council run' one next to the hotel was free from 6pm until Monday morning. The room was a decent size, but we had chosen an executive, so that matched that element of what we would expect. Now for the negatives, the corridor from the main stairs to the room absolutely stank of **** but it seemed there was nowhere for that smell to go because there were no windows or any extraction fans to allow air to flow. The decor in this area was also very dated, and the wooden frames of all the corridor windows were painted a dark grey, just why? Inside the room there was not a single piece of furniture that matched which made me wonder if they had raided the British Heart Foundation furniture shop over the road to purchase it all. We were only staying a couple of nights but no drawers for 'smalls' clothing so that all stayed in our bags. You could not open the windows and it was absolutely stifling, despite being in late September. The bathroom was massive, but had a very small bath with the shower in it and one of those annoying glass doors to stop the floor getting wet (they never do!) The water was very slow so I am glad that I discovered that during a freshen up shower as would have needed a few more days if I needed to wash the shampoo out of my hair. Also, I would have ended up needing treatment for burns as it was piping hot and could not be adjusted. The ONLY plus was the Indian restaurant downstairs, which can be accessed through the hotel. Great food and nice staff. The bar in the hotel was pretty awful too, and as for the breakfast, well, it was dreadful buffet on the tiniest heating serving thing, sausages and bacon barely cooked, and everything else all dried up, and just two slices of bread left in the basket. We went to the Wetherspoons close by in the end, which was usual Wethersoons standard, but the staff in there were really good. Would not go back to this hotel, not even if you paid me!

Not the most awful place I've stayed but I'll not be coming back: Wrong room allocated on arrival (guy was really helpful and swapped me straight away, so without other things wouldn't have been an issue) and corridor smelled of smoke New room was two twins together .. I'd specifically ordered a double not two twins together but couldn't be bothered to change again Lights out half a corridor on new floor Mattress was really hard. I'm not usually fussy but was pretty uncomfortable Walls seem a bit thin... Sound carries Hotels been done up but on a cheap way... based on normal price ... Decent travel lodge is usually better Really annoyingly the TV kept cutting off because of what it said was poor WiFi For the price there's far better places to stay in and around Hartlepool. Was left wishing I'd booked one.

Boiling hot room, shower flooded the bathroom due to badly fitting screen, power failed to sockets in room so no bedside light/TV/kettle/charging. Breakfast appalling. Orange juice tasted like squash, eggs were inedible and coffee insipid. Staff and workers rude, unprofessional and failed to rectify problems.

I arrived at 10.00 pm and went into reception. No one was there, but someone eventually arrived with a "high mate can I help you". 'I hadn't realized I was his mate which is my bad. I went to my 'executive' room to find the window can't be opened and there's no aircon. Checked with my 'mate' and he could offer a fan. No idea what the room must be like in the summer but it was boiling in September. Then I was kept awake until 2.00am with the sound of someone in the room above me having a blazing row/ The sound proofing is non-existent you can hear everything. Went down for breakfast to be told the eggs were on their way. The rest of the buffet was very small. coffee was from a flask. Every item that hadn't run out, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes arrived but no eggs. The eggs finally arrived as I was leaving. 3 workmen were also having breakfast and helping themselves to all the 'freebies' No one was working in the restaurant. the staff that did pop in didn't seem interested. Not worth the money for the room and the breakfast was definitely overpriced. Overall very disappointing and despite the fact that I will now be travelling to Hartlepool every week for the next 12 months I will not be returning.

Good location in Hartlepool, County Durham and within easy reach of surrounding Counties. The Grand Hotel bedroom was spacious with a very comfortable bed and bedding. The ensuite bathroom with a bath and overhead shower was huge. Pleasant bar and restaurant. Lovely decor and original features. (Take a peep at the Ballroom) Great friendly and helpful professional staff. Excellent value.

The room was modern and very clean. Perfect nights sleep… Mayleigh and Vicky did an amazing job at breakfast! Very hard working! Frank the Manager was so welcoming when i arrived at the Hotel, nothing was too much trouble! I will certainly be returning.

Hotel was very good. Very clean rooms. Town centre on your doorstep. Room was very hot but made use of the fan provided. It was very much needed. The bar downstairs was very chilled and well priced. Breakfast was good. Overall very nice stay and will definitely go back.

The building has been recently renovated so all areas seem to be smart and clean although the character of the original building remains. There is parking in dedicated spaces, or in an adjacent lot but at evenings and weekends only. The rooms are quiet and have all the facilities you will need. On the ground floor there is a lively bar which seems popular but I didnt hear any noise. The hotel is in the town centre so there are plenty of shops and bars in the local area. The inclusive Breakfast gave a great spread of hot and cold choices but coffee drinkers should bring their own sachets for a drinkable brew! Overall, a very pleasant 2 nights.

I didn’t go to this hotel despite booking in for 2 nights. Because of the rail strike I could not get there. I tried to switch the booking to the following week but a member of staff rudely told me there were no cancellations. I appealed to both ******* who handle the bookings and Best Western of which the hotel is a member but both refused to help. Result is that the hotel have taken £117 for two nights. If you find yourself in a similar situation please don’t expect any support. I’m a charity worker and pensioner on a low wage and cannot afford to rebook. Be warned!
