This is a lush, beautiful, and ideally located B&B and Dan and Amy take such good care of their guests we felt like family. It was our first time in Maui and we wanted a low key (rather than big resort/hotel) experience. Ho'oilo House was the perfect solution. It somehow managed to be off the beaten path but close to everything we wanted to do. We stayed in two different rooms as the ocean view became available for the last 3 nights of our stay and I will say that every room has something to offer. Each room has a lovely carved door at its entrance and an outdoor shower. I loved walking around the grounds and looking at all kinds of gorgeous tropical plants, beautiful birds, lizards hoping about, and even the requisite B&B cat. The grounds, lobby and pool are simply amazing and the breakfast options each morning are just the right way to start the day. I would highly recommend Ho'oilo House!

A beautiful home set in a gorgeous garden, surrounded by abundant wildlife, stunning sea views and sunsets, located in a prestige residential area. For British travellers, it’s similar to discovering a rare, boutique stay you might find in the Cotswolds, Cornwall, or Devon. Located in a residential neighbourhood rather than amongst resort hubs and downtown holiday lets. The house itself is truly one-of-a-kind, with interiors worthy of a magazine spread, “Soho House” attention-to-detail with tropical/Balinese design. The hosts, are literally your neighbours, and strike the perfect balance between being warm and sociable, with space to relax. There is a sense of safety and security having the owners next door for any questions, needs, etc. Dan in particular, offers a warm welcome, provided plenty of recommendations, easy going and made many kind gestures …. thank you! You are close to nature, from birds to insects, so don’t be freaked out to find nature indoors. Thankfully, there are no predators on land, only a few in the sea! Breakfast is delicious with freshly baked artisanal muffins and bread - plenty of choice and the tray wafted delicious. Having stayed at a couple of the “leading” hotels in Honolulu, neither resort came close to the guest care, peaceful and quiet, or had the uninterrupted stunning views found at Ho’olio House - it was way more personal and exclusive. Also, the other guests were like-minded travellers. Dan, Kathy and Amy made our first visit to Maui unforgettable. We wish them all the very best, and thanks once again. It was really lovely to meet you all.

Beautiful and pleasant surroundings. Gorgeous home nestled in the hillside among other homes. Delicious breakfast. Friendly and helpful hosts. Nice view of ocean in distance. Beautiful outdoor sitting areas. Also an airy comfortable indoor central space with seating for 4. Hosts provide beach stuff for you to take to various swim and snorkel beaches. Volcano is about 75 minutes away. Lots of beaches nearby but for most popular, you must arrive early for parking. Much of close-by Lahaina closed still to non-residents, but a small ***** of the famous Front Street with 5 good restaurants is open.

Beautiful home! So peaceful and quiet. Well located on the island. Large rooms with relaxing outdoor showers. Kind hosts who are easily accessible and happy to help. My husband loved the daily breakfast by the pool. Thank you for having us!

Got to stay a few days at the Grand Wailia resort and a few days with at Ho’oilo House. We regret only that we didn’t stay the whole time at Hooilo House. Was so special and everything was perfect. Close access to the best whale watching & often times we didn’t want to leave the house. Next time we will rent a car and stay there the whole time. Dan was a host that felt like family. 💛

Highly recommend Ho’olio House and would definitely stay again. Did 7 night solo trip at end of November and loved every minute. Directions from the airport to the House were easy to follow and my GPS took me right to it. I rented a car through Turo (also recommend). It’s a perfect landing pad if exploring Maui, as well as a perfect setting if want to just lay by the pool all day. Loved the Bali inspired neutral aesthetics amongst the backdrop of the greenery of the grounds and ocean views. Dan, the owner, was friendly and personable and never too busy to chat. The B&B is in a clean community. Visiting as a single female, I never felt unsafe. There is a walking trail w/n walking distance of the B&B, but heads up there are some hills. Regarding the room amenities, the owners have thought through every detail. I wasn’t lacking in anything I needed for the week. Although they offer the same continental breakfast options, you can switch up your choices as you wish. I especially loved the fresh fruit, bread, coffee and tea. I stayed in the room called Nalu and would choose it again as a solo traveler. However, my 6’4 husband would not have fit in the bed. Anyone over 5’10 maybe uncomfortable since the bed is enclosed. If that is you, I’d choose the rooms with a king size bed. A friend had flowers delivered to me for my birthday while there. The tropical flower arrangement was big and beautiful! I also took advantage of the in-room massage (60 mins + scalp treatment) and would do it again and for longer. It was relaxing and convenient being on my room’s porch. Request Roxanne if you purchase a massage! The whole experience of Maui was special because of Ho’olio House. I cried when I had to leave. Don’t hesitate to book!

This experience was a blast. The level of maintenace of house and garden was extraordinary, Dan and Amy are caring hosts and the scenic view over the pacific ocean is mind-blowing and jaw-dropping. The interior design is ground-breaking tasteful and everything from furniture to architecture and materials is a perfect match. Qualifies for holidayarchitecture objects

Ho’oilo House is nothing short of magical—a true paradise on Maui. Whether you’re celebrating a honeymoon, anniversary, or simply seeking a tranquil escape, this boutique gem offers the perfect blend of luxury, serenity, and authentic Hawaiian charm. From the moment you arrive, Dan, the long-time host and owner, makes you feel like ohana (family). With over two decades of experience, he has perfected the balance of attentiveness and respect for privacy. Need advice on where to go or what to do? Dan’s wealth of local knowledge is invaluable. Prefer uninterrupted relaxation? You’ll feel as though you have the entire property to yourself. The house itself, designed in an exquisite Balinese style, is breathtaking. Open-air architecture invites the soothing Maui breezes, while every detail—from the hand-carved furnishings to the lush tropical landscaping—creates an atmosphere of pure elegance. The rooms are spacious, light-filled, and luxurious, each featuring outdoor showers and bathtubs where you can enjoy steaming hot water under the stars or as the sun rises over the West Maui mountains. Now, let me address a key concern for anyone planning a visit post-Lahaina fires: Ho’oilo House and its neighborhood, Launiupoko, remain untouched by the devastation. This area is as pristine and idyllic as you’ve always dreamed Maui would be. Plus, local restaurants, bars, and attractions are open, welcoming visitors with aloha. By staying here, you’re supporting the community at a time when it’s needed most—and the experience far surpasses that of a large resort. With complimentary breakfast, free parking, unparalleled privacy, and personal attention from the host, Ho’oilo House offers unbeatable value. If you’re unsure, I urge you to call Dan directly. His warmth and sincerity will instantly put you at ease, and you’ll quickly see why this place is so special. My wife and I both agreed: if we could redo our honeymoon, we wouldn’t hesitate to spend it at Ho’oilo House. Pro tip: While every room is a masterpiece, the Nalu room was absolutely perfect for us. Don’t overthink it—Ho’oilo House is the Maui experience you’ve been searching for. We’ll be counting down the days until we can return.

The Ho'oilo House was the perfect place for our visit to Maui. The property was lovely and so relaxing. We enjoyed breakfast on our patio and dinners by the pool watching the sunset. Dan and Amy were so accommodating and we felt taken care of our entire visit. Room was comfortable and quiet. We could not be more pleased with our stay and hope to return in the future.
