Excellent!! We had been in for drinks earlier during our stay in Hawkshead, and really liked the atmosphere and vibe in the pub; it had a nice mix of locals and visitors, giving it a nice community feel. We booked a table for 7pm the next evening. Booking is advised but if you haven't a booking they will try to accommodate you if they can, and the kitchen finishes at 8.30. We opted for the Tomahawk Pork Loin and the chicken curry. The pork was so succulent, perfectly cooked and nicely seasoned. It was served with home made chips and a peppercorn sauce, delicious!. It's clearly popular too as they sold out not long after my order. The chicken curry... wow! This is probably the nicest, pub meal chicken curry I've ever tasted - restaurant quality, at pub prices. I was told it was home made and you can tell, it was absolutely delicious. It was also served with delicious rice, slices of red and green chilli's and an onion bhaji which, again, you can tell was home made rather than bought in. Just perfect! (Sorry for the lack of a picture of this amazing curry... we just tucked straight in it looked and smelled so good!!) On top of all that, the staff were all incredibly friendly and welcoming. I cannot fault this place, we loved it! Thank you to everyone at the Red Lion

Long weekend stay, we never enquired about parking as there is only limited parking and not sure if you can book or first come, we had decided to use the public car park £9 a day. Short walk to pub, friendly welcome and shown room, we were on top floor, fine for us but maybe not for anyone with mobility issues. Floors and walls are all angles with building being really old, adds to charm. Ate in a couple of times all meals really nice (especially the steak pie). Had comfortable sleeps and hearty breakfasts. Great location for walks and exploring in car.

Visited for evening meal in Sept. Staff were lovely and welcoming and we were given a choice of tables in the lower dining room. Our main meals (Mac&Cheese pie, Steak &Ale pie) were brilliant! Tasty, with beautiful tender meat and great accompaniments. Pudding (lemon posset & apple crumble) were to die for, especially the posset which was served with a spiced blackcurrant coulis. Highly recommend this great pub with food that is definitely a cut above

We stopped off here for some lunch. We both had fish and chips which I have to say were excellent. The fish was fresh properly cooked crispy batter. Chips were fantastic. Service was great and we had a nice cool beer. Couldn't be happier. Everyone was friendly and everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. We ate at 2:30 pm. Menu was simple but well executed.

Difficulty finding parking, no room at 2/3 restaurants, no heat in the room, tv didn’t work.

We called into this lovely pub for a cold drink and food, This is a quaint old pub full of character and charm, they had a lunchtime special on of a sandwich and soup for £10 the food and soup were very tasty. Hawkshead town is very small but full of character and charm which i recommend.

A really nice, friendly pub in the village of Hawkshead. The room was good with an excellent bed and the food was amazing. We’d definitely be up for returning.

We would definitely stay again Lovely place and very friendly staff. Great food and choice of drinks. The area of Hawkshead was gorgeous. The room was very cozy, we stayed in room 7. The only downside was the creaky floor boards in the room that got a little annoying in the end and the lack of hanging space. We would definitely stay at the Red Lion Inn again
