Called in for Sunday lunch and wished we hadn’t have bothered. Total cost of nearly £60 and felt we had wasted our money. Only had beef or lamb so we had one each, both were very fatty and under done. Roast potatoes were hard and the other veg was either stone cold or very hard. Wouldn’t go again. The staff are so miserable and unwelcoming but there is one lady who is so lovely chatty and helpful, thank god for her. Shame food was so dire as the pub interior is so lovely.

I think the management have worked hard to improve the experience since we were last here a few years ago when we vowed never to come back! The hotel does not have a lift so we opted for one of their rooms in part of an old building across the road. It was ‘small but perfectly formed’, with a large, comfortable bed and all the amenities with good views. There was a drawback in having to park at the back of the inn then cross a rustic path and the steep road to the hotel door on a wet, windy evening, but there was a welcoming fire roaring in the bar. The dining room is off the bar and the cheerful shouting from the bar area made it difficult to have a conversation at times. The menu was interesting and presentation ok. Different options for breakfast and a tray was brought over to our room. The setting for this pub is pure Yorkshire and we heard the owls at night and a dawn chorus of birds and sheep in the morning.

Lovely overnight stay at The Owl. We’ve been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got round to it and we weren’t disappointed . Really friendly staff, lovely comfortable rooms and fabulous food and drink. We will definitely be coming here again very soon.

Great night away. Cozy pub with wood burner and very friendly and accommodating staff. The food menu was limited but everything we had was top notch. We stayed in a room in the old stables which is just yards from the pub. The room was warm, cozy, clean and the bed comfortable. There was loads of piping hot water and all the amenities you would want and expect in a room. Breakfast was also great. Will definitely return.

We absolutely love coming to the Owl and it has become our new favourite local in the last year or so. Really gorgeous updated decor and the food is absolutely delicious! Really different stuff to what you get at most of the local pubs around here so it’s nice and refreshing! We love having a drink outside in the sunshine, such a gorgeous beer garden in the sun!

I know they have good reviews from food guides and evening press. But I must have been on another planet from them. I’m afraid I wasn’t impressed in fact extremely disappointed. If you want the real reviews just look at what people say on review sites. The room was nice but it was right above the kitchen so there was a lot of banging and clattering until about 10.o’clock. Just no atmosphere I’m afraid in the pub. Nice view of country side but a very limited menu. Not to everyone’s taste and extremely expensive for what you get. Really do need to extend menu in restaurant. And just do bar meals separately and have classic bar meals like pie and mash fish and chips . Then do high end meals like steak and up end dishes in restaurant only. Also the price and portions need to change. Small steak and a few chips no sides for that price sorry no. To expensive . I have reviewed and stayed in a lot of pubs hotels and top restaurants all over this country and other countries.had the best steaks with everything you need for less money even the best steak house in Dublin Buckleys which is top end. I’m afraid need a big over view on prices and portions.

Found this lovely old character Inn ideally placed for walks & booked a Superior Double Room, which generally means a bigger than standard double. Nowhere did it state that the room was a converted outbuilding over the road & not in the main Inn. The room was tiny & dark ( due to just one very small window) no character at all, one of you had to sit on the bed whilst the other was getting ready as no room to move ( see photos). I was having a pleasant conversation with the owner (the wife) expressing my dissatisfaction in a very polite manner, when her husband sprung up out of his Chair & told my very abruptly that he didn’t want me there if I was disappointed & I should pack my bags & leave, he followed it up by saying he wouldn’t be able to please me so I should leave, he was very rude & intimidating he then lectured me that just because I was disappointed with the room didn’t make me right, he said he had supplied all the basics including the double bed. In addition the room lacked finesse, there were no shelves in the en-suite or shower to put toiletries on, no spare toilet roll, the tea & coffee wasn’t topped up, the carpet was grubby, the woodwork needed painting & the leaking radiator was reported on our arrival & still leaking when we left 2 days later. No welcome information, pub not open for lunch. Breakfast had no continental option and the cooked breakfast was luke warm. We had the fillet steak in the evening, one was completely overcooked & both were tasteless ( probably due to the Chef also having to wait tables, serve at the bar as well as cook). To top it all when we checked out they added 2 bottles of wine to our bill (£51)that we hadn’t had.

Very friendly welcome when we arrived on one of the hottest days so far. Lovely views, lots of outside tables and really good bar and restaurant areas. Food was excellent we had the sharing charcuterie platter and then I had mushroom pasta which was delicious.

Stayed here for a 3 night break, using as a base for trips out. Staff were really great. Room was small and we were advised about the noisy fan - so didn't really impact our stay. Had a really nice Sunday lunch there. It's a bit out of the way - but a lovely peaceful place that helped us really chill out.
