A wonderful welcome and stay at Carlton Lodge courtesy of Lisa and Harry. A lovely room, cosy snug and great breakfast. Helmsley is looking fabulous too with festive trees and lights around the town centre!

Such welcoming hosts. Very knowledgable and helpful with tips and suggestions of the local area. High quality produce in the yummy and plentiful breakfast. Room 2 on the ground floor had everything we needed. Lovely lounge area just next to our room with lots of reading material about surroundings.

I cannot fault Carlton Lodge B & B run by Harry & Lisa . Every “ box “ ticked. Spotlessly clean , comfortable and friendly accommodation … & a tasty breakfast ! Wonderful hosts in Lisa & Harry who have an in depth knowledge of the area and beyond . Plenty of books / maps of walks and places to visit available to peruse . Breakfast can only be described as “ perfect “, so carefully prepared and served. You would be missing out of you passed Carlton Lodge by. So many places to visit within easy reach. Walk the Cleveland Way to Rivelaux Abbey , drive or catch the bus to the coast to enjoy spectacular scenery along the Cleveland Way . “ Heartbeat “ country nearby. Steam train journeys to enjoy . A good choice of pubs / restaurants in Helmsley too . Good for the soul ❤️.

Stayed here on the first night of our Cleveland Way walk. We cannot fault our welcome, stay or breakfast. Harry is very professional, but welcoming, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the Cleveland Way. We acted on his advice about booking meals in places where you would think there's a lot of choice. Our room was spotlessly clean and well appointed. Having a smart TV was a real treat! The veggie breakfast was lovely, and such a nice change to have perfectly wilted spinach as part of our meal. Our server was lovely and also very knowledgeable about walking the Cleveland Way. She also created a great atmosphere in the breakfast room. We would highly recommend Carlton Lodge.

Carlton Lodge is in a great location and a perfect place to stay while you visit Helmsley. My single room was small but had everything I needed and as a solo traveller it was great to be able to stay somewhere without having to pay the Single Person Supplement. There was some traffic noise but I put that down to the season as it was mostly caused by tractors towing farm produce around. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. There's a large sitting room for guests to use and bistro tables at the front of the house to enjoy some late evening sunshine. Breakfast was great. I had the homemade yoghurt followed by a Full English and toast but the usual cereals and fruits are on offer too. There is adequate parking at the rear of the B&B.

We stayed with our two border terriers for a couple of nights mid-week recently. Thoroughly enjoyed it! The room was well appointed, very comfortable bed, great shower room and lovely selection of teas and coffees. Plenty of space for us and our dogs. We received a very warm welcome and the hosts were an excellent source of local knowledge and hints and tips for walks to do from the front door or further afield. They even had various maps for walks that we could take with us. Breakfast was really very nice indeed, best black pudding I have had for a long time! The location is a 3 minute walk or 5 min stroll from the centre of Helmsley which means you can quickly get to your evening meal and then gently help it settle on the way back. First rate place, hosts and brekkie - highly recommended!

The parking was very easy with enough spaces to the rear, where we parked early and walked into town as had been previously advised via email that this was acceptable. Check in was at 4pm and well-orchestrated, relevant information provided (breakfast times and pre-booking menu, keys for doors etc.). The property was spotlessly clean and a lovely building with very well-kept garden and seating to the front (parking to the rear). We did stay during a hot spell and although there was only one window in our room, it was to the rear so didn't get too warm (room 3) and as we were on the first floor it was possible to leave the window open all the time. The curtains kept the room fairly dark once it became light. Wonderfully fresh smelling toiletries and sourced from the UK which is a lovely touch and plenty of replenishments easily available which we found to be exceptional as not always the case in B&Bs. Breakfast pre-booking is not an issue for us and there was plenty of choice with some lovely alternatives (homemade yoghurt). The property provides plenty of information regarding walking routes and both owners are very knowledgeable on more than just local areas - well worth a chat. Only a personal preference but the room was on the small side for us however, it was fine for 2 nights (room 3). The room layout did make the most of what needed to be included though so not a complaint.

We stayed at Carlton Lodge for one night en route to Whitby from Nottingham. It was a lovely, comfortable room. Harry gave us an really warm welcome and couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. The beds were luxurious and the breakfasts were brilliant. Would highly recommend! There’s also some lovely pubs 200 metres down the road

Carlton Lodge is one of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed at. Harry and Lisa keep the rooms and facilities in immaculate condition and offer a friendly welcoming stay. The food is home made and/or locally sourced and is plentiful. They offer extras in the dining room so top ups of organic teas and coffees for the rooms and fresh milk with alternatives to cows milk as well. Harry and Lisa offer an amazing range of information on walks, hiking routes, drives and runs & cycles for all levels and have such a depth of knowledge of the area which they are always happy to share. The B&B is centrally placed in Helmsley so all of the places to visit, shops and places to eat are just a short walk away. We felt so welcome. We’ll definitely be back.
