About this spaceWelcome to our coastal home! This historical building is charmingly located next to a fishway of the Mill Pond. Every year in May, there are hundreds of alewife coming through the fishway everyday to the Walkers Pond to lay eggs. We are so proud that our property is part of this exciting event! The apartment is newly renovated 2022, and we are planning to turn the old post office (downstairs) into an art studio in the near future. We hope you will enjoy this scenic property as much as we do!The spaceThis is an apartment newly renovated in 2022 and located on the SECOND floor of the property. (First floor is for our personal storage and NOT part of this Airbnb). It has two bedrooms, both bedrooms have a full size bed. The couch in the living room can be used as a full size bed as well.Our place is ideal for 4 or less guests, however there is room for 6 people to sleep and we do not charge extra guests fees.We have a window AC and each bedroom has a standing fan & living room has a ceiling fan.We have Wifi, smart TV, board games and books for you to entertain. Well equipped kitchen for you to cook homemade meal even on a vacation.There are some quirky parts of this apartment. The second bedroom is connected with the first one. Although it has an emergency fire escape. To enter or leave the second bedroom, you must passing through the first bedroom. Also, stairs! One must climb two stairs to enter the bathroom and the bedroom. A variety of games and puzzles and a collection of books will keep you occupied on a rainy day.Brooksville, with a total area of 33.8 square miles and 53 miles of coastline is home to Holbrook Island Sanctuary, a pristine nature preserve, and also the Good Life Center, the last homestead of Helen and Scott Nearing (authors of Living the Good Life). Pastoral, rolling hills and scenic blueberry barrens are plentiful throughout the area. There is a Farmer's Market every Tuesday morning in Buck's Harbor during the summer months.Acadia National Park, with a road to the top of the highest mountain on the on the eastern coast as well as hundreds of scenic hiking trails, is just over one hour away by car. Don't miss visiting the Wooden Boat School in nearby Brooklin; Haystack school of crafts on Deer Isle; and Kneisel Hall, famed for world-class chamber music, in nearby Blue Hill,This fully renovated two-story camp on the edge of the water maintains its rustic atmosphere. New in 2015 is a small roof over the entryway (in case of rain). From there, you step into the "mudroom" where there is a coat closet and behind another door, a stacked washer/dryer.Step through the glass french doors to the living room where you will find HARDWOOD OAK FLOORS, a BUILT-IN HEARTH, and a SOAPSTONE WOOD STOVE with a CATALYTIC COMBUSTOR--BURNS LIKE A FURNACE, BUT IS AS LOVELY AND GRACEFUL AS A WORK OF ART. The living room is furnished with a recliner and a full-size sofa as well as a smaller cushioned chair and a coffee table. A large sliding glass door in the living room opens to a fully-screened porch. Cushioned seats and coffee table grace the porch as well as a folding chaise/recliner.The kitchen is fully supplied with dishes, pots and pans, mixing bowls, and includes a lobster pot, drip coffee pot, coffee bean grinder, tea kettle, toaster, blender, electric mixer, microwave oven. An efficiency-sized gas range allows for more countertop space.Bathroom has large mirrors over the sink and lots generous-sized cabinets. There is a shower with adjustable shower head, and the linen cabinets are fully stocked with towels and washcloths.As you walk up the stairs (with carpeted runners), you will come to a landing with large windows to the southeast and southwest. The upstairs has a cathedral ceiling with a ceiling fan and track lighting that can be dimmed for a tranquil ambiance. There is a large, high triangle window in the main upstairs facing southeast to let in plenty of early morning light.Both upstairs bedrooms are cozy with Skylight windows in the lower part of gambrel roof, giving excellent water views.The boat room has life jackets and paddles for the kayaks as well as a long, knotted rope to use to ease the kayaks up and down the slide (next to the stairway to the water). There is a gas grill with two gas tanks, and a backup charcoal grill. A portable wooden ramp is there to help move the grill in and out of the boat house. Nearby activities include hiking, kayaking, and biking in this pastoral area. We encourage you to check out the various sanctuaries on the peninsula and the Dead River Trailhead in Orland is worth the trip.If you seek to enjoy the local food scene, Tinderhearth, one of the New York Times' "restaurants they are most excited about" in 2024 is approximately 1/2 a mile away. Local lobstermen make finding fresh Maine Lobsters easy and you can even get them cooked for you. Our beach and boat house look down the river to Castine, Islesboro and Camden and the waterfront is beautiful.Bar Harbor is just over an hour and Acadia is a great trip to walk or ride your bike around the trails there. Our peninsula has loads of open space and is surrounded by water and sailors love these waters. Theater, antiques, music, and local craft are nearby.The apartment has a complete private entrance and living space. Being on a large farm we invite guests to use our beaches and fields. Located on the right side of the farmhouse, a private entrance and yard with seating and grille. The apartment is open and keys are available on the table for your use. The Apartment has a small yard and it's own grille. Access to our beaches include the western beach with fantastic sunsets. The north beach which is totally private and often can be a home to otters.This is a housekeeping apartment with initial supplies included only. You can ask for added cleaning if needed.Our neighbors include the wonderful Tinderhearth, 1/4 mile for bread and pizza and open mic, and Buck's Harbor for supplies. Yoga is in Blue Hill with David Walker, kayaks are available to rent and be delivered here. Castine is 2 miles by water and has our favorite Pentagoet restaurant along with great pizza and history. Fresh milk can be found at the Retburgs in Penobscot and lobsters cooked from Northern Bay Market. The local parades and breakfasts are on going and the Steel Bands are playing through out the summer. The Methodist Church in Buck's Harbor has music every Tuesday night all summer and the Yacht Club has dancing on Thursday night. Reversing Fall's Sanctuary also offers many local events including Solstice celebrations and art shows. Holbrook Island along with numerous hiking trails abound through the Blue Hill Heritage Trust. Enjoy swimming at Walker's Pond or if you prefer, use our beach and the chill of the water right here.Don't forget all the activity in Stonington at the Opera House or enjoy a boat ride. The New Surry Theater has ongoing shows, Deer Isle's artists and Haystack are busy all summer and visit Brooklin Boat Yard. There is classical music at Kneisal Hall and in Blue Hill.
