"24 South (Formerly Stonewall Jackson) is a lovely old hotel, stationed in a perfect spot to enjoy Staunton. When we checked in, we were informed that the breakfast area is closed due to covid, that they don’t enter rooms due to covid, the hot tub is closed due to covid, etc. but the front desk staff and other staff are 100% unmasked.
The room was tidy but bland. The lower sheet was not fitted, but a flat sheet, and it came untucked in the middle of the night, leaving us sleeping on sections of bare mattress.
Grab and go breakfast was wrapped pastries and muffins, ice cold bananas and apples, and yogurt. Very minimal effort made.
Another disappointment was the pool. We got all suited up and went down for a swim. We got there and there was a large family having a pizza party in the pool area, while their kids took over the exercise room. We tested the pool with our toes and found the temperature to be frigid. It’s an indoor, underground pool with a hot tub (forbidden to use due to covid) attached. Certainly it has the ability to be heated, but they have opted not to.
It seems like they are making very little effort to make it a pleasant experience. I understand that everywhere is short staffed now. "
