Holiday Inn Resort Ixtapa All-Inclusive

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Resort in Ixtapa for 21 days. Upon check in, staff were very friendly. We had paid for an ocean view and were given an ocean view on the 19th floor. It was amazing! The resort is dated but they are working on updating. The pool areas were somewhat disappointing. Water in one pool is about 2 feet, swim up bar is beside the kid's play area. After a few days, we decided to check out the other pool. Deeper water, about 4 feet but it wasn't the cleanest. On our last day, we did see them water pressuring the pool area but lounge chairs weren't cleaned very often. I have to say breakfast was the best meal. The omelettes were delicious! Most days there was some fresh fruit; watermelon, cantaloupe, and pineapple. Some days bananas were available and if not, our waiter, Adon was more than happy to find one. Very disappointed in the rest of the food selection at meal times. It was very repetitive. And the most disappointing thing was it was never hot. In all our years of travel, we would have to say that this is the first time we have encountered this. The Al la Carte food was good, but cold. I understand that everywhere is coming back from covid, but to me that is not an excuse for cold food. Needless, to say, we ate out most evenings of our last week. Some great restaurants to choose from, Deborah's (my favourite), Frank's and The General's). There were some positives to talk about. I would have to say that the staff were very friendly. Most spoke Spanish, with little or no English, but most times, we were able to get across what we were trying to say. A lot of the staff go above and beyond and were so very friendly. A big shout out to Adon-food waiter, Cleo (pool man), Samuel-our waiter around the pool, the lobby bar waiters and waitresses, Filiberto and Marilu. Holidays and vacations are what you make of them. We are very fortunate to have great friends that we travel with and all in all, it was a fun holiday. Many memories, lots of laughs and fun times.

It was our first time in Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo and indeed it was a pleasant surprise, the hotel is not new but it is well maintained, we had a suite with 2 nice balconies. The staff is very helpful and friendly, the food was quite good and they had plenty of daily activities and shows every night. The visitors were mainly families with small children and they have a nice adults only section! We would gladly go back specially after a couple of months that there will be a direct flight on VIVA from MTY where we live starting in July. Nowadays you practically lose a day flying thru Mexico city. There were plenty of people in the hotel and on the beach starting in Friday. One situation I consider a drawback and didn’t like is that the sea is very agitated and the tide is very strong tries to get you back into the sea, the lifeguards at the hotel don’t let you go far into the water where the waves break, the put up a BLACK FLAG which means don’t go into the water, I had never seen that before. I understand there are other beaches where the waves aren’t as strong, we were at beach EL PALMAR, I was told there are good hotels in other areas like LA ROPA and LAS GATAS In summary the hotel is nice if you enjoy the pool which by the way has warm water and being at the beach and just barely going into the sea, if you enjoy going into the sea freely I would look for other option in accomidations

The hotels sounded great on the add however upon arrival we were told that an accident happened in our room! They told ne that a cleaning person had accidentalky dropped a bottles of cloro on the floor. I was told it was going to get cleaned up. My wife if very sensitivo to strong smells so I asked if the case was that the smell was too much if I could get moved to another room. I was told that wasn't possible. I was told it wouldn't be smelly. When we go to our room, it didn't smell like clorox, I assume that the room was simply not ready. Being honest about that woukd have avoided issues. Also the room smelled like mold very badly. We requested a room change and I was told I needed to pay. It's supposed to be an all inclusive hotel and it's less than all inclusive other than the food. The amenities like bike ride, kayak, etc has an extra cost unless the reservation has been made via a timeshare. When making reservations for the bikes, the amount of miscommunication between reps was incredible. To the point that we missed the ride twice. It was just dumb. The hotel is very run down and needs maintenance. By far not the best for thw price. I will not be coming back ever. For an all inclusive hotel go somewhere truly all inclusive.
