Hotels in Shaxi Ancient Town, Jianchuan

I booked this on a friend's recommendation. I went to Shaxi to experience the local culture and customs, so I loved this courtyard-style B&B, built in the style of traditional Bai ethnic minority dwellings! This local couple runs a local business, a place that doubles as a guesthouse and home. The owner and hostess were incredibly welcoming, helping with our luggage and asking about our well-being. It felt like home. They even have a cute and affectionate Border Collie who plays Frisbee with guests! The best part about the inn is the tranquil environment, with gurgling water, chirping birds, and fragrant flowers—it's so relaxing! You could always see the hostess busy cleaning and putting things away, and the cleanliness was impeccable! There's also their own parking lot right outside the door, a laundry terrace, and an audio-visual entertainment room—everything is included. Overall, for this price range, this inn is absolutely highly recommended!

The inn is very beautiful, it is a 100 year old house, at the center of the town so it is very convenient to go visit all places. The owner is also very helpful, he helped pick up/deliver our luggages to the street where we got dropped off/departed. He also helped us to reserve seats for shared car to the next destination and answered any questions that we have (via translation apps or wechat). Everyone in the inn is friendly, highly recommended for staying in Shaxi.

As soon as you enter the courtyard of this guesthouse, you're struck by absolute peace. The room is simple but has everything you need. The owner is incredibly kind. I want to thank her again for the way she looked after me and for her patience in helping me even though we spoke different languages.

This lovingly well managed boutique hotel stole our hearts the moment we stepped into the compound. Firstly, hospitality is at its best! Owner 潘姐 and her team are so welcoming and hospitable. We were so well taken care of throughout our two nights stay. Hotel is located within minutes walk to Shaxi old town. Fresh fruits and flowers arrangement grace the halls & rooms daily, making it such a charming and cosy place for guests to enjoy. Rooms are superbly well appointed with modern amenities & well curated furnishings. Bed and pillows are so comfortable that we slept very well. Breakfast is wonderful and delicious and there’s always a plate of fresh fruits served to us in the afternoons. Throughout the hotel, we see beautiful collection of Yunnan decorative ornaments well put together by Sister Pan. She is someone who puts in heart and soul into managing this boutique hotel & caring for her guests. We enjoyed our delightful conversations and were gifted a guide book of Yunnan authored by her husband董增旭. Thank you so much for the hospitality! Highly recommend this boutique hotel!

Felt like travelled back in time staying in this beautiful courtyard. Located just outside the old town where car is still accessible which is convenient for loading/unloading of luggage. Short walk to the old town. There is heated mat on each bed during our winter stay in Dec. Western and Chinese breakfast are available.

The accommodation is in a great location within the old city. The owner is very friendly and helped us book minivan tickets for our next destination. A downside is the lack of heating (listed as an amenity in the room description), but above all, the constantly open grates in both the bathroom and bedroom make the room extremely cold and constantly exposed to drafts.

二樓房間360度景觀無比贊，房間也舒適，二樓大露台發發呆無敵景觀工位做做工很是愜意，非常淳樸熱情的白族兄弟，過節叫我們一起吃飯，家常飯菜可口，娃晚上發燒老闆主動幫忙送我們去衞生院，進來的村間小路不太好走記得提前打電話老闆拉車來接。

A B&B run by locals, a newly built house with a small garden on the first floor and a kitchen on the first floor. There is a parking space at the door. It is not in Shaxi Ancient Town. It is just on the edge of the village. Shaxi Ancient Town is suitable for walking, but the road is too narrow. Yes, you can't miss the car at all. The boss upgraded us to a room on the second floor. The room is large and suitable for a family. The sheets are very clean and changed for each guest. Toiletries are provided, but there are no disposable towels. The bathroom does not have wet and dry partitions. The water in the shower is all over the place, this needs to be improved! The network in the room was not very stable, and the hot water for bathing was very good, even if it was late at night. As soon as we arrived in Shaxi, it rained continuously and it was unbearably cold. I took a hot bath every night and slept comfortably. The breakfast on the first morning was a local snack, Erchuan, which was cooked by the boss himself. , stayed for another night, and the next day’s breakfast was preserved egg and lean meat porridge, eggs, flower rolls, and corn tortillas. You can add more if you don’t have enough. Most of them are made by the boss himself. The porridge is cooked well and the boss is also very enthusiastic.

This is my third visit to Shaxi. On my previous trips, I'd stayed in older wooden guesthouses where the soundproofing between floors wasn't great. This time, I deliberately chose this newly opened guesthouse, which has been beautifully renovated from a traditional wooden structure. True to its name, 'Mili' (meaning 'Grain of Rice'), it might be compact but it's perfectly appointed and utterly satisfying. The guesthouse facilities are excellent. The owners are a young local couple who are exceptionally warm and hospitable, making you feel right at home and completely avoiding the impersonal feel of a hotel. With only five rooms, it offers a wonderfully quiet stay. Plus, the Ersi (a local rice noodle dish) cooked by the breakfast auntie was absolutely delicious. All in all, it was a fantastic guesthouse experience.

The boss and his wife are very nice. They help with picking up and picking up luggage. The rice noodles made by the wife are very delicious. The room is antique, quiet and has a good view. It is very close to Yujin Bridge and the city gate. It is hygienic and clean, full of details and mineral springs. You can grab water and use it as you like. When I left, the boss even gave me a bottle of homemade fried mushrooms, which made me feel like I was home. I will definitely stay here again when I come back. I recommend it to everyone.
