It’s hard to explain the way in which the Fogo Island Inn and its warm staff make an impression on your soul. The hotel is much more than the bricks and mortar from which it is built. I felt welcomed by the kindness of strangers and left a little bit of my heart there. I travelled with my autistic son who was met with kindness and who states it’s one of the best places he’s stayed, All of the staff went above and beyond. The rooms, whilst not the biggest or swankiest, make you feel instantly at home and it’s hard to draw yourself away from the window, especially when you are greeted with an ever-evolving iceberg just off the rocks. I did manage to do a boat trip to the Little Fogo Islands and to see a giant berg which was incredible, When the captain sang a sea-shanty on the way home I momentarily believed I was from Newfoundland. You get assigned a community host who drives you round the island and shares stories of their life. This experience is far more than a stay in a hotel. It’s a brief immersion in the life of the Island. I always thought it would be a once-only trip. Now I am imagining what it would be like to visit in other seasons. I’ll have to start saving. For now I have my lovely quilt to remind me of the place.

My mother and I had the best time and we want to return again. It was my early 65th birthday and what a gift! Rooms, Staff, Services, Food were all excellent. 6 starts all around. Happiest place we have ever stayed in and I have told everyone they need to get there for sure. Congratulations on providing a truly outstanding place to visit and enjoy in our beautiful country.

I visited for 4 nights at the end of June. Fogo Island Inn is in the top 3 properties I've stayed at around the world. And it's not just the exceptional accommodation, food and service, it's the story of the Inn and the community. It's the kind of experience that will change your perspective on things. Service level off the charts - they will meet your every need (I needed/desperately wanted, a grapefruit and one magically appeared the next day, and grapefruit is not really part of their vocabulary - they might have flown it in). From David and Amanda to Emily, Makayla, Kathleen, Grace, Paddy, Marlene, Lorie, Travis and Dylan every staff member you bump into wants to help make your stay memorable. They all knew my name - tens of staff, but I couldn't keep up with their names. Maybe I need to stay longer. There were enough Newfoundland-like activities to keep you going for days, though you would be tempted to just hang out in your room or around the Inn. They took the essence of Fogo Island and packaged it into an Inn - the food, service and feel of the island is all there. It was VERY comfortable to stay there and I was sad to leave. Very cool temperature my first day but the following days were perfect - in the 50s F. Bring lots of layers but if you still need more, just borrow what you need from the provisions they keep available for you. From water bottles to snacks to electric bikes to cars....they have you covered. At least for me as I was leaving I was thinking about when I could return. It's a special quiet place in a world that seems to be getting more chaotic. The Fogo Island Inn is a good thing, for the guest, the community, the country and the world. It's a one-of-a-kind experience.

We are fortunate that we are able to travel the world and stay, when available, at top rated properties. Fogo Island Inn rates as one of the best we have stayed. From a spectacular view, amazing service and outstanding food, it is a place one does not want to leave. The island offers very well mark trails yet, what makes the place special, are its people: beyond friendly.

The perfect balance of professional and personal service made our stay exceptional. The staff remembered our preferences from day one, and the little surprises (like complimentary afternoon tea) added such charm. The beds were cloud-like, and the bathroom amenities were top-notch. The lobby's ambient music and scent cre

There's something special about a place that makes you feel both energized and relaxed. The staff struck that perfect balance between being attentive and giving space when needed. The rooms were thoughtfully designed with both aesthetics and functionality in mind. The breakfast options were diverse and fresh, and the evening ambiance was simply magical.

Holy guacamole, what a place! I've stayed in a fair few spots in my time, but this one takes the cake. The staff are like your best mates, but ones that really have their act together. The whole shebang is like a well-oiled machine of awesomeness. I'm already figuring out when I can come back!

Crikey, I wasn't expecting this! This place is like a little slice of paradise. The people here are absolute gems, always ready with a smile and a helping hand. Everything's neat as a pin and works a treat. I'm tellin' ya, it's the duck's nuts. Don't think twice, just book it!

We are no strangers to off-the-beaten-path destinations, and Fogo Island Inn has been on our to-do list for quite some time. For this trip, we combined it with a visit to Prince Edward Island (Mrs. KI-NRT is a huge fan of "Anne of Green Gables," and chartered a flight directly from Charlottetown to Fogo Island Aerodrome for convenience's sake, and in order to fit everything into a one-week trip. We couldn't be happier with the combination, and it was nice to save the best property for last. First of all, the price - it's eye-wateringly expensive, especially the room we booked, the 103m² Flat Earth Suite, which was the top category room on site. On the one hand, Fogo Island Inn is really the only luxury option on the island. That said, compared to similar properties we've visited around the world, it's easily double (or more) the nightly rate. Yes, it's a full board arrangement, and they have a no-tipping policy, but even then, value for the money is not in Fogo Island Inn's vocabulary. Also, if we were ever to recommend this to friends, we would only recommend the Flat Earth Suite - looking at photos of the other room categories, I couldn't imagine passing the time - at a place like this - in accommodations whose standard rooms are not much roomier than a base room at a Hilton or Marriott. The Flat Earth Suite is a corner unit on the top floor, and is a loft-style room with the bedroom on the second floor. The view is stunning from the room - the windows are two-stories high, and the wrap-around view lets in a ton of natural light. There is a washlet toilet on both floors, dual sinks in the bath/shower room (the bath and shower are separate), and the bathroom and shower have heated floors. Additional conveniences include a master light switch on both floors, comfy slippers and comforters that are warm, fluffy and light. The one negative has to do with the curtains - they are manually operated and the ropes are heavy... it caused my hands to become somewhat raw, so for subsequent curtain adjustments I used a towel to keep my hands from directly making contact with the ropes. Guests staying at Fogo Island Inn have free use of bicycles and e-bikes which can be used to explore the surrounding area. However, to go further afield on your own you really need a vehicle. Thankfully Flat Earth Suite guests are entitled to a Tesla Model 3 to get around, which we used to get to the Lion's Den Trailhead, among several other locations. Given the frequently inclement weather on Fogo Island, the property conveniently offers rental boots, hiking poles, jackets (including outer shells), parkas, hats and other just-in-case items. They are high quality, too - Mrs. KI-NRT helped herself to a very nice Patagonia outer shell on two of the days when it was extremely windy. Many of the reviews mention the amazing dining experience, but we felt it was mixed bag. Many of the dishes were unique, creative and focused on local ingredients, which is what we look for when v
