Banyan Tree Sanctuary Guest House

All round fantastic. Great gardens, refreshing salt water pool, relaxing salt water hot tub, well equipped kitchen, and comfortable beds. Generally nice enough we were happy to pass many hours at the lodge rather than exploring further afield on the Island (though we did that too).

This is a truly marvelous spot. The grounds and gardens are spectacular- the jacuzzi pool and sauna are always open and made every return to the hotel so relaxing after a day of adventure . If you’re planning excursions in and out of Kona but want to avoid staying in the tourist town, this is a perfect location. There’s a private kitchen and lovely bathroom and comfortable rooms. I’d like to take the balcony home with me…if only!

We found the Banyan Tree Sanctuary perfect for our Big Island experience of 8 days. It was our home base for day trips and wonderful place to relax, reflect, and get the deep breath of refreshment we were looking forward to. It also met our budget with comfortable lodging and access to kitchen where we made most of our meals. The view each evening of the setting sun in the Pacific was breathtaking.

While planning our vacation to Hawaii, my husband expressed his one and only desire and that was to stay here as they had everything he wanted -- the Buddha, veganism, clothing optional (only at night) and relaxation. We were only able to stay here for one night, but our time here was nice. This hotel is tucked away in the jungle with a view of the ocean in the distance. They have a community kitchen where you are able to try fresh fruits from their trees and macadamia nuts. They also request that you only cook vegan meals in the kitchen. They also have a salt water pool, sauna and hot tub available. We had them entirely to ourselves. A TV was not in the room, but was available in a building called the meditation room. A few negatives were there was a lot of bugs in the room, but they do seem to believe all life is sacred, so perhaps they don't spray? We also took a walk around the hotel and were not sure where the property ended and whether we were invading someone's private property. Domesticated cats roam the property as well, but are not allowed in the rooms.

We stayed for one night, catching an early morning flight - so we were literally in & out, but what a shame. This place was pretty funky! And the hot tub, got nice and hot (the pool was cold enough that you could dip in between them - also there were fresh macadamia nuts that you could crack open yourself & the private balcony on our suite look out over Kona & it was all pretty special!

This place is now a combination of long term residents and a few pay by the night rooms. It made for a terrible sleep experience as the third floor tenant leads a night life in a place that advertises quiet from 9PM-9AM. I paid $240 a night to have the most interrupted sleep of the last 5 years of my life living in the middle of a city and travelling the US staying in city hotels. Managements solutions were nothing of the sort.
