Best Hotels in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic

Stayed here for a few nights for work during the 57th Karlovy Vary Film Festival. I liked this hotel although it was pretty hard to judge it properly as the entire place was PACKED due to the film festival with all areas and many floors of the hotel being used by companies and displays. It is a bit of an oddity in Karlovy Vary as it's a modern 15 floor tower / conference centre in a town full of Czech old world buildings (I can only imagine the uproar when they planned it). So it's a hotel that also has Spa / Medical Treatment / Swimming pool, thermal pool / pool party / conference centre and restaurants. It seems to be modern by local standards - I was in a superior room with a balcony on the 13th floor with great views. The room had all the mod cons available in most decent hotels, good wi-fi, USB Power outlets, nice firm bed, good regular housekeeping. One thing I noticed was that the beds didn't have a separate sheet, only a fitted sheet and then a throw over dooner - no big deal, just different. Downstairs restaurant doing breakfast / lunch / dinner with a lot of options and really good wait staff. There's a large separate building (accessed by hill climbing elevator) that has an outdoor heated pool, thermal pool, saunas, change facilities - there was also a Pool Party with DJ, bar etc on the weekend days / nights (I assume that's just in summer or just during the film festival). I believe you get complimentary access to the pools /saunas for a couple of hours every day of your stay - I used it every morning for laps, it was great. In the pool complex there's also a decent restaurant with amazing views. As I said, the place was packed and the staff all seemed to handle it well. Everything you could want outside the hotel is a short walk away and there's SO many restaurants / bars etc to choose from. Karlovy Vary wasn't on my list of places to visit, but now that I've been there I'd consider going back.

Pleasantly surprised by the hotel, which is really 4 villas inter joined. Room was spacious and elegant. Large pool, 2 saunas and pools. Room to sit outside in garden. Food was good. Really excellent breakfast buffet and dinner buffet was surprisingly good, though little expensive. Dining room self lacks charm. Very zealous staff who clear everything swiftly. Hotel was quite empty so plenty of room. If full may feel crowded. Parking is a bit expensive but little other choice nearby. Center is 10-15 min walk away. Felt nice to be able to leave the busyness behind, retreating up the hill to the hotel. A treat to stay here, feeling like a fairytale park in the hills.

Originally, I was full of expectations for the five-star Pop. After I found out, a hotel was actually divided into two pieces. Through Ctrip, I entered a small door. The front desk was a little big. The breakfast room was very cold and run down. No one came to serve coffee. On the other side of the front door into the front desk tall, the breakfast room is estimated to have three or five large, coffee special service. The room on the side of Ctrip has no five-star standard, and the more dilapidated side is the Asian and Chinese tourism team... After seeing the difference, it directly affects the mood of traveling in the hot spring town. This trip is the most heart-felt hotel. The parking fee is more than RMB 100 for 24 hours.

The hotel is located happily, just in the middle of the central promenade. The check-in is quick. The staff is OK. The house is old but quite renovated with soft carpets in the corridors that remove noise outside the room. There is a small lift to bring the suitcases up. Despite crowds outside the noise is not at all heard in the room due to the double layers windows protection. No bath, only shower. In the bathroom a few towel hooks and a shelf would come in handy. Found missing. We did not switch on TV in the room. The beds are too soft, the linen is too noisy when you turn in the bed, waking up the neighborough. The blankets are too hot for the summer time. All these resulted in our inability to sleep at nite. The breakfast was merely bad, with a very little choice. You get stale within 2 days. It was the worst breakfast we remember: untasty sausage, dab coffee from a machine. We were always running out of bread, butter, etc. and none among the service men there to help us herewith. We would choose the hotel again with a better bed quality and much improved breakfast. If not, we do not recommend La Bohemia, in spite of a very fortunate location of the romatic hotel.

The building is impressive, enthroned up on the east hillside of Karlovy Vary. Habsburgian vibes reminiscent of ancient days. Imperial is in good condition and nicely renovated. The scale of the building is huge and dimensioned for thousands of guests. Walking around takes quite a bit of time but with lesser amount of guests than the mentioned thousand, it feels quite lonely to stroll the corridors... The public areas are mostly beautiful, but the five official stars... no, unfortunately not. What is lacking? Well, the scale of the property demands to keep it running. To keep it running you have to have a lot of guests. Thus, you have to attract people who not usually are in the ”five star category”. And so they (try to) do. Many things turn to ”cantina” standard in respect of both the reception and ”handling” of the guests and the dining options. Very tired staff at check in. One example: in the main lobby there are only two elevators, whereof one at our visit was out of order. Another elevator in another part of the hotel did not serve all the floors. Nah.... Rooms are renovated and just fine. All amenities and a good night's sleep in comfy beds. Nice with a small balcony. For those having some sort of boarding agreement, dinner is served as a buffet dinner in the magnificent ”Prague restaurant” with lavish decoration. A buffet is hardly a concept in a real five star hotel and we consequently had dinner in the more intimate ”Restaurant Paris” - see my separate review. In ”Prague” breakfast is also served, which proved to be a great gathering of all the hotel guests at the same time. More like a school cantina than a five star hotel. Everything in place though, and most thing you would want is there to find. Queues to the coffee machines... Parking was ”doen the hill” and we ended up parking on a tennis court (!). OK - no problem, but not in the ballpark of attending staff helping you with the parking facilities. Staff correct and polite. But very stiff. And tired. Many steps behind service of a true 5-star. It's about price/performance. We had the opportunity to stay at three different hotels at Karlovy Vary during our stay. And one of those was the Grandhotel Pupp, which we considered to be much more lika a true five star. AND they are/were cheaper! So, you may well stay at Imperial, just for the sake of the building's eminent history and athmosphere. But be aware that days gone by since the turn of the century does not apply in the respecto of ”grand” anymore.

We met the Dvorzhak Hotel in 2006, when we first arrived at Karlovy Vara for a holiday. After getting holiday postcards in the following years, we were surprised how organized everything. From 2021 we come here every year by the whole family. The Recipes Violet and Natalia will always help with joy and smile to solve any issues arising. The Misha, Elishka and Tomash restaurant will feed delicious adults and small guests, and Radka with Ivanna will serve just greatly. They are very helpful by Angelina, Natalia and Maria. Oxana's rooms will clean quickly and when it is convenient. This year, the treatment is performed by a professional team: Ida, Alexander, Stefan, Jana, Petra, who are already on the start treating their attention and desire to help. This year, my son's birthday at the Dvorjac Hotel was organized perfectly thanks to Marika. The cheapest hotel I booked in Prague, but the one I am most satisfied with. Although there is no front desk, the young lady inside helped us store our luggage, and then moved to our room. The luggage was so heavy that it was difficult for the young lady. The rooms are very large, furnished very warmly, clean and tidy, with a kitchen and a dishwasher. The map also helps us to mark it carefully, which is really awesome. The hotel is near the station, so you can drop your luggage and feel the town. It is said that in terms of brands, the small town is the place where the Czech Republic has the most stock. There are two restaurants nearby. The food is very delicious. It is the best place for us to eat in the Czech Republic. The steak is juicy and tender, and cheap. The average price is 60-70 RMB~

It took a lot of effort to get to the hotel. The hotel area is quite large, divided into blue areas and green areas, plus a single-family area. However, the order could not be seen at all. We all walked to the blue area and went to the front desk to check in to know that it was actually on the other side.
