Artelo
"Upon arrival, neither of the 4-digit check-in codes worked. Just so happens that there was a young man in a white truck on the property watering plants and he provided us with a direct number to Jen, the Manager. After 5 voicemail messages between that young gentleman, myself and my dear friend, Jen FINALLY called us back and blamed the INCORRECT entry code numbers on Trip.com NOT communicating with Artelo (the hotel) staff. It was 91 degrees and took 30 minutes before we received NEW entry codes to get in to our respective rooms. Jen never once offered complimentary snacks or drinks to make up for this inconvenience. THEN, to add insult to injury, the next morning we wake up to 10 CONSTRUCTION VEHICLES IN THE PARKING LOT working on another hotel being built within feet of the place we were staying and were NEVER told that we would encounter this situation. In general, the Artelo hotel TOTALLY LACKS curb appeal because it is just one large black-topped parking lot in front of the place and then ADD IN CONSTRUCTION noise, the overall experience was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! Would NEVER RECOMMEND this place to ANY one, ever!"
The Bookhouse Hotel
"Mixed feelings about the Bookhouse Hotel. The owners obviously tried but there were a lot of misses in the Secret Garden suite we occupied. The main space, out of which the kitchenette, bathroom, lounge, and second bedroom are accessed is a bedroom! Still can't get my head why they didn't make it the lounge... this means that for anything I wanted or needed (a tea, resting in the lounge, using the bathroom...), I had to go through my elderly friends' bedroom... Other "not-thought-through" details: no switch by the bed in the main bedroom for the reading lights. You have to get back up. No space for a glass of water at night by the bed. No hanging space in the main bedroom. Rooms are noisy, which I don't mind personally but may bother others. Finally, as advertised on the website, the rooms are not ADA compliant. They are also not suitable for people with reduced mobility. However, when my friend called to check how practical/impractical the suite was, the staff didn't specify there were steps to the bathroom and kitchenette too, or no anti-slip mat in the bathroom. It would have been the staff volunteered a bit more information in response to my friend's inquiry so they could make an informed decision. Otherwise, the beds are comfy, the toiletries nice, the towels thick, and the overall atmosphere very pleasant."
