My wife and I arrived around 4.00 pm and checked in at the bar as there was no front of house facility. The bar area was crowded with customers and there was a band playing We were directed to our room There was only one other party in residence during our stay. Our allocated room was on the top floor which required us to climb a number of flights of stairs to reach our room. Although I did not count then, I estimate the number of stairs to reach our room to be at least sixty. There was no lift in the building, and the standard of the handrails on the stairs was poor to say the least, and on some stairs, there was no handrail at all. I believe the standard of the stairs represented severe safety and fire hazard. There was no bathroom available on the same floor as our room, only one on the floor below, down several flights of stairs. The toilet facilities on the same level as our room were also poor. In the room itself, there were no facilities to hang our clothes. It was obvious the hotel relied heavily on the bar trade and accommodation facilities were incidental. There is no way I would recommend this hotel for accommodation.

The hotel is within walking distance of the blowhole, the main street of Kiama, the markets, the surf beach, and the train station. It is an old pub with old facilities that needed work, all of which was expected for the price. But a few easy fixes could have changed this room's rating for the price from poor to good value. The floor was visually dirty. When opening and closing the blind you got black dirt on your skin/ clothes. The shared bathroom facilities never had toilet paper and lacked a bin for paper towels. The windows needed to be opened prior to guests to remove the stale air smell. The staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful, but obviously expecting complaints from their behavior.

Stopped in for a drink after dinner. It seemed like a good vibe... until we encountered the house rules. Wife secured a table (as we both walked past the bar and the bar staff) and then I went to the bar to order 2 drinks... one for her, one for me. Both different. I was told they couldn't possibly serve me 2 drinks because it was a 1 drink per person limit, and they had to sight all people. So I had to retrieve my wife, lose the table, to order drinks. I'm 56, my wife 54. Clearly we're not ordering for minors. We had a single drink and left. Well done for reinforcing the nanny state, The Grand. We won't be back.

WORST rating I can give. 45min wait. Sad shrivelled up tiny veil schnitzel on a bed of glue paste like mash potatoes $32. 3x burnt potato “scallops” the size of potato gems $10. We sent the food back and went to red rooster. Total fail and very rude slow incompetent bar staff.

Absolutely rubbish! Do not recommend. We booked (and paid and received confirmation of) a room in September 2024 for 2 nights in February 2025 (Friday and Saturday 21 and 22 February 2025) to attend The Red Hot Summer music festival in Berry. Drove from Canberra after work on Friday. Got to The Grand Kiama at around 6.30pm. Went to check in. Was told they had water damage a few weeks ago and all previous bookings had been cancelled. “Your booking must have fallen through the cracks. Sorry.” The rooms were now ok and ready to use. However all rooms were booked out that night so there was no room for us - despite our booked, confirmed and paid reservation. This left us trying to find last minute accommodation (we found somewhere in Nowra - 45minute drive away). No offer of anything - no drink from the bar or dinner or assistance to find other accommodation. Super dissatisfied and disappointed and overall lack of care. Do not recommend this place.

My mum and I ate here on the 29th of December 2024, and it was hardly grand!!! I would first like to say that the staff were very nice and good at their jobs, our poor experience was not their fault; they were clearly understaffed. We had to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food (calamari and a cheeseburger) and when we did get it my burger patty was basically raw in the middle. I am very disappointed as I don't like to be negative, but I truly feel like I have to warn people not to eat at this place. Sending love to the stressed out staff, hope they can get some extra help and that the Grand Hotel can clean up it's act! Still love Kiama tho great place to visit :)))

Used to like the food here but last night was dire. Atmosphere is great. Staff were great but the food was bad. Cold fries, the green beans were practicality raw I took them back and the calamari was super greasy. The beans came back cooked but swimming in oil. Another table was leaving just after we ordered and they weren’t happy either. I hope the Grand gets their act together because we would like to eat there again one day.

Enjoyed the Steak & glass of wine, lager or soft drink $20 Thursday night special. Great! Crunchy chips and Steak cooked just as I requested - all very tasty thanks. The special offers a choice of steak or schnitzel. Lovely service at the bar too, thank you.

If I was a food crittic, I'd shut the place down! It sounds nice on the menu seeing the fancy wording and expensive prices, but it was harshly disgusting.. The Only nice thing I can say, is that the bar service was respectful. 🤮🤢 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
