Beautiful hotel perfectly located a stone throw away from Killarney city centre. Friendly staff & fantastic service at both check in & breakfast. Will definitely stay here again & highly recommend.

Windows opened out to greens and a garden. Bed was comfortable and the appearance of the both the room and the entire hotel pleasant. We enjoyed spectacular breakfasts! The Browne Room (bar) was closed but we spent some time in the downstairs bar. Staff was exceedingly adept and pleasant, at reception, in the dining room, and also in the bar. We were encouraged to enjoy the whisky tasting experience and did! But one of the reasons for encouraging us was that we'd learn a fair amount about the different whiskeys. Our server knew less than we did.

We stayed in the great southern in April. It was our first hotel break with our baby and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay from start to finish! Our room was lovely and spacious with a cot set up for the baby, dinner in the bar was delicious and breakfast the next morning was the same!! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, will def stay again!

This hotel is a lovely place to stay in Killarney. It is right across the street from the train station and a short walk to all that Killarney has to offer. I enjoyed having a kettle in the room. The bathrooms are nice and large. The staff is great, especially in the restaurant.. The rooms need a bit of renovation but they are super clean and very comfortable. I enjoyed the breakfast, there is a wide variety on offer. The meeting space is good. I will say this: everyone in our group complained that the rooms were too warm. I think they need to be cognizant that we are now in April and there is really no need to heat the rooms to 75-80 degrees. I was very lucky and I had a balcony so I could open the door and get the lovely breeze and cooler air in the room. There was a lot of literature in the room and it was daunting to have to read lots of leaflets explaining everything. The instructions about the thermostat did not work, despite the instruction on how to lower the heat. Individuals should be able to request that the heat be turned off in their rooms. If you find the thermostat, you can try to lower it by hitting the arrow down but within the hour the heat will be back to the predetermined setting. This is probably why I would not stay again, unless I could guarantee a balcony room.

Lovely hotel . Staff are really helpful and friendly. I would have to give a special mention to a girl whose name was Maria she was amazing ,she was always ready to help and so friendly and always with a smile There is a few things which are small which would add to experience . There are no biscuits in room to accompany tea/ coffee and also I think that in this day and age a coffee machine is prob something that is expected

As always we were really well looked after and warmly welcomed back to GSK. Brilliant concierge team-Evelyn, Sean, Brian and all the other members at the front of house. Great food and service in the Garden Room and the Bar too. Quick and efficient check in and check out. Cannot wait to return to my favourite hotel.

Another wonderful experience at the Great Southern. The staff are warm and friendly and really a notch above the rest. The food is delicious and the facilities are great. We couldn’t have asked for more. We’re counting down the days will we can go again!

My daughter and I stopped into the Great Southern as we do every year for something to eat. Unfortunately, the bar was under construction so we could not avail of the lovely fireplace in the bar. We were seated in the reading room instead, which was fine with us. The service has changed significantly as we were left at our table for over 20 minutes and no one offered to serve us. I walked up to the bar area as many people were being sold drinks. I was told someone would come to take our order, only to wait another 10 minutes. There were plenty of staff in and out serving people drinks, but no one would serve us. After they took our order it took over 30 minutes to get our food, despite being the only people in there. Eventually we were served food that was mediocre, tepid, and certainly not worth the money that was charged. I ordered a glass of wine, which was never served. I had to go up for a bottle of water as my daughter was waiting for ages. I also had to walk up to ask for a cheque. Another family were waiting as long as us and eventually complained as their food was cold, they waited over 30 minutes to be served, and three staff members were standing chatting instead of serving people. I’m not quite sure what had happened but the service was appalling. No one even attempted to keep customers happy waiting for their orders. Absolutely shocking. Will never return again, which is very sad as I have been a patron for 20+years.
