I booked last minute so availability in Koh Chang was limited. Duckling was one of the highest reviewed accommodation.
Pros
Close to the main shops, restaurants etc, 10-15 minute walk to nice beach
Staff are very good
Bike rental is cheap, no deposit, trustworthy - you definitely don't need to hire anywhere else
Rooms are spacious
Water provided upon request
Bar has games, cold drinks, nice atmosphere
Cons
No safe in the room
Massive ant problem
Room only cleaned when requested
JCB digger was view but then some rooms don't have windows....
Its dry season, the river is just rocks and pipes
This place is good value. If you don't want a resort with a pool on the beach, you want good value accommodation with friendly staff who treat you like a friend rather than a customer and close to the main road
This is 2* place that could do with some changes (like having the shower gel, shampoo combo near the actual shower, not the door) but overall i was happy with the stay.
If i went back i would spend maybe 4 nights on Koh Chang, 1 at Kai Bae, 1 at Klong Kloi and 2 at White Sand. Lonely beach is a 1 hour visit.
If you book the return bus from Ekkami to Koh Chang ferry, it picks you up at the same place it drops you off (at the ferry - 80 baht to cross, mini van to Kai Bae 100 baht). There is not much at the ferry point so don't plan to stay there too long.
Returning back there i took a Songthaew from the main road (has a yellow sign in the window saying 'Pier'). Then crossing, took around 1hr 15mins. 100 baht for Songthaew.

We stayed at this hotel first for one night, then extended it for another day. In the end, we lived for a week. The local location is good, in the middle of Kai Bay, near 7eleven, the beach, elephants and silence. The rooms are large, nice balcony. But during the week they didn’t clean us once, didn’t change the towel, and the water stood in the restroom for a long time after taking a shower. Even in the corridor in front of the room there was no scrubbing. The leaves and small debris lay there and remained frozen all week.
The staff, consisting of two women, pretended as if we were not there. They didn't even say hello. Such an attitude has never been seen anywhere in Thailand, or indeed in Southeast Asia. During this trip alone we changed more than 10 hotels, this one being the worst in terms of service.

Excellent hotel. There is silence all around and a view of the mountain. It’s 2 minutes to the main street of the beach, 5 minutes to the mother’s beach. Nearby is one of the two sevens on Caye Bay. Large room, comfortable bed and excellent internet

Very comfortable room, with a balcony overlooking the jungle and the river. Very good air conditioning, very good wifi. The staff is very friendly and willing to help us. We would return.
