NOVOTEL KUNMING CITY CENTER

Novotel Kunming is an unexpectedly great hotel, which is very centrally located. The check-in was highly professional. The room was clean, completely automated, with robot service, and quite beautiful. Fruits are served daily. The facility on the other hand is what makes it truly stand out. It has two floors of gym and a very large swimming pool. This contrasts with other typical hotels in China, which don't usually pay attention to the gym (which is a huge mistake because foreigners like me typically love gyms). The equipments in both the gym and the pool were both very complete. The breakfast was also unexpected great, with plenty of options which changed during my stay. Next to the hotel are several nice restaurants. The cloth washing service was free of charge and performed by some very high quality washers/dryers. On the other hand, there were quite a few smokers in the hotel. There were people smoking in the gym and even during breakfast (the space was highly enclosed, which makes it jarring). If the hotel can curb down the smoking issue, then it would truly be perfect. You should book here for fast access to the train station (about 20 minutes), to Dian lake (20 minutes), Xishan area (20 minutes) and I'm sure other interesting others. Shilin park is a bit far away from this hotel's location, however. Attached are photos from outside of my hotel.

Excellent stay! The room was spacious, clean, and cosy. Having a washing machine was very convenient, especially for a family. Special thanks to the front desk staff, Pooh, who provided excellent service. Pooh checked on our requirements daily and was always attentive and helpful. We were also pleasantly surprised with a lovely fruit basket, which was a thoughtful touch. We have a wonderful stay in the hotel. Highly recommended!

An overall nice experience. Friendly staff, accessible location, within 3mins walk to metro station, next to a shopping mall.
