This 5-star hotel in downtown Kunming easily gets a solid 10/10 from me—the value for money is off the charts. Location: While it’s a bit of a distance from the main attractions, it sits conveniently right in the middle of everything. It's a peaceful oasis amidst the hustle and bustle. I especially loved the entrance being tucked away on a slight slope, offering far more privacy than most trendy, "Instagrammable" hotels. Service: Absolutely top-tier, a full 10/10. Every single staff member I encountered was incredibly professional, carrying themselves with dignity, warmth, and grace. They were proactive in greeting guests, offering help, solving issues, and checking in on our experience. These subtle details truly showcase the management quality of a long-standing, prestigious local 5-star hotel. Room & Amenities: We upgraded from the originally booked 210-degree panoramic room to an Executive Suite, and it was worth every penny. The suite was significantly more spacious, with a much better layout and view. It featured two bathrooms with separate wet and dry areas. On top of that, we enjoyed complimentary access to the 32nd-floor Executive Lounge. The stay was so comfortable that we ended up extending for another two nights. Value for Money: Beyond amazing. Rates went up slightly during the National Day holiday, but the increase was so minimal it was genuinely heartwarming. Overall: We will definitely be back! This will still be my top choice next time I visit Kunming. Just hope the prices don't go up, haha!

Classic 5-star hotel. Located right next to Kunming Railway Station, with direct views of the station from the room. The surrounding area is peaceful despite its central location, ensuring a great night's sleep. Although the hotel is a bit older, the decor and maintenance are top-notch. The overall quality is much better than many 5-diamond hotels listed on Trip.com. The doorman at the entrance was exceptionally warm and enthusiastic, proactively helping with luggage and opening/closing car doors when getting in and out of taxis. When I checked out at past 5 AM and left my charger behind, the front desk attendant kindly went upstairs to retrieve and deliver it to me. The hotel swimming pool is very clean, spacious, and uncrowded. Swimming a few laps every evening was wonderfully relaxing. The breakfast is standard and decent with all the basic options, but lacks local character. It also seemed understaffed; they had Yunnan grilled rice cakes which sounded great in theory, but no one was actually manning the grill, and the charcoal wasn't even hot—it was basically just for show. Overall, great value for money. A classic 5-star hotel—even an old Ferrari is still a Ferrari ^_^

A well-established 5-star hotel, highly recommended! 👍 The decor is classic without feeling outdated, still maintaining a high-end, luxurious vibe. Located right near Kunming Railway Station with a metro station 🚇 right downstairs, making it super convenient to get around—plenty of dining, shopping, and entertainment options nearby. The high floor offers expansive, stunning views. Breakfast is plentiful and offers a great variety.

This hotel is excellent, and the views are fantastic. Even during the National Day holiday, there was no price gouging. The location is also great, and the front desk and staff are all very friendly. It's also very photogenic! I'll definitely choose to stay here again next time I'm in Kunming.

Great stay with high value for money. The location is very central and the breakfast was good. The pool is definitely the highlight—it's amazing! They even gave us fresh flower pastries upon departure, which was a lovely touch.

The hotel staff were all great. I booked two rooms and they helped arrange connecting rooms for us. While the hotel facilities might not be as modern as newer hotels, I didn't find anything inconvenient. It just means no electric curtains or smart toilets, etc. After all, it's a well-established five-star hotel, so it's clean, has both a bathtub and a shower, and the room size was sufficient. All the staff had excellent attitudes, the higher floor offered great views, and it was very quiet. Excellent value for money. There are also restaurants nearby and it's not far from the subway station.

The room must have been incredibly luxurious back in the day, and it still doesn't feel old-fashioned. It was impeccably clean and very comfortable, with a full range of amenities. The internet was fast, and the modern facilities were up-to-date. The swimming pool was particularly impressive; the sunroom was so warm that even swimming during the National Day holiday wasn't cold at all. The gym was large and well-equipped. The buffet at the restaurant was decent and reasonably priced. The only issue was the live streamer who kept filming the dishes, which made me feel awkward about getting food…

The hotel is conveniently located near the train and subway stations, making transportation easy. Although the hotel is a bit older, the rooms are clean and tidy. We were very happy with the family room, which was a connected suite with a king-size bed and a twin room. It was very spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Despite the hotel being over 20 years old, the facilities are well-maintained, and the bedding was comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep. The hotel environment is generally quiet, making it a suitable choice for a stay while exploring Kunming. The breakfast offered a good variety of dishes and tasted great. Overall, I was very satisfied with the location, service, and the entire stay. It offers good value for money, and I would consider staying here again on my next visit to Kunming.

Quite a good hotel, located right in the city center. It even has a gym and a swimming pool, and the views are fantastic! It would be even better if they provided a bit more drinking water, haha! Thanks to the front desk for the suite upgrade.

The only good things about this old-school star-rated hotel are the beautiful lobby and professional service. However, it has many drawbacks. Firstly, the facilities are very outdated. The toilet is definitely not smart, flushes slowly, the bathtub wasn't very clean, and the showerhead was quite dirty, especially the one on the wall – the water pressure was uneven and too strong. What bothered me the most were the awful hairdryer and TV. These really should be updated immediately; they felt like relics from the last century. The hairdryer had pathetic airflow, and the TV screen was incredibly blurry. The room's soundproofing was also poor; I was woken up early in the morning by conversations next door. So, in the future, I'll definitely choose hotels renovated after 2025.

Overall, the value for money was excellent; it was well worth it. I will definitely choose to stay here again on my next visit.

I've been to Kunming many times, and I always choose Jia Hua Plaza Hotel. It's an old, iconic five-star hotel in Kunming. Even though the hotel has been open for a while and the facilities show a bit of their age, they are very well-maintained. The rooms are clean and tidy, not looking worn out at all. The staff are warm and polite, with attention to detail. The soft services are definitely five-star quality.
