KUN MING UPLAND INTERNATIONAL YOUTH HOSTEL

First time staying at a youth hostel in China and overall it was a good experience. Pros: - Location is excellent. Just across road from cuihu. Lots of great coffee shops and bars within walking distance. - Cafeteria in the hostel had good coffee and a decent range of beers. I didn't personally eat there but other guests said the food was good as well - Big public area where you could socialise with other guests - Facilities were reasonable for a hostel at this price. Cons: - There were not a whole lot of activities organised by the hostel - Sound proofing is not the best. You can pretty easily hear things next door, upstairs or even from outside. - The atmosphere is a little hit or miss. I stayed here for 7 nights. The first few days, there were not many people that wanted to socialise but the last two nights, I met some great people and had a great time that I extended my stay by an extra night. I think the main issue with the hostel (and this is not necessarily their fault) is that some Chinese travellers choose to travel cheaply and the hostel offers a great price, so during my stay there were a lot of elderly people or families with young kids, which was not what I was expecting when staying at a youth hostel. These people mainly kept to themselves and I feel dampened the mood at the hostel. Overall, this was a solid hostel, but I would have tempered expectations when staying here if you are expecting a very social youth hostel.

This place is so cute and welcoming. The cafe is great, serves western breakfast as well. It is very nice to chill at the cafe or outside in the garden and work there even if needed. Beds and rooms are nice, doors are very thin though so can hear the hallway but I had no problem sleeping and they provide earplugs. One downside is there is only one shower and 2 toilets for 8+ people so you might need to wait a little. Great place to meet people. Overall had a lovely stay, would definitely recommend!

We really enjoyed our stay here. Staff is super helpful, location is super convenient, atmosphere is beautiful. Food was delicious both local and western dishes! Great coffee, too! There is live music some nights. The rooms on the upper floors are more comfortable and quieter. Great for families and travelers alike. This is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in!

My Roommates were really loud in the middle of the night, but only the last two nights. The reception was really helpful and helped me with my Taobao package! The breakfast is very nice, but takes some time if there is other people.

Check my photos. $27 for night, at least twice overpriced! The room smells of mold, the bathroom doors are damaged by moisture, there is rust everywhere, and it's noisy from hallway.

Love the vibe and setup. Very cozy and relaxing. There are levels of stairs to climb before reaching the ground level of rooms with elevator.
