Perhaps the biggest flaw: they don’t have non-smoking rooms. Aged hotel, great location, abismal architecture, ugliest building around the Yubatake, nice service, parking out of the town centre, but with a shuttle taking you back and forth any time of the day. The hotel onsen is ok, but not big enough to deal with peak times. Breakfast is fabulous. A true banquet. And service is so good that they’ll even bring you a nama tamago if you ask them. If you don’t want to pay for a traditional-looking bath house building, you’ll find nothing more convenient than this hotel. And if you have a problem with any ashtray smell of your rooms, they will desodorise it in a process that takes 1 hour. Perhaps not a bad idea to ask them to do this before your expected arrival time.

My wife and I went to Kusatsu Onsen for the first time, and we were impressed by the unusual flower arrangement style at the inn where we stayed. We thoroughly enjoyed both the hot spring bath and the food. I recommend everyone to try the flower arrangement at Boun at least once. It's convenient as it takes about 5 minutes to get from the hotel to the Yubatake. On the way there was a hot spring manju shop and a chopstick specialty shop, so time passed quickly. The next day we stopped off in Karuizawa via Tsumagoi Village. It takes about an hour to get there from Kusatsu, so you can do some shopping on the way back. We ate at the Karuizawa Shopping Mall in front of the station before heading home.

We stayed in one of the rooms with a private onsen. It was a large room with two beds on the floor and a dining area. There was also a tiny makeup area/table on the side that I truly appreciated. The in-room onsen was large and comfortable. It had a large window that opens which brings in the refreshing cool air. The Skintheque toiletries were luxurious and perfect. The large shower was also a plus for us. Food was unbelievable. I was able to try new tastes and flavours I won't soon forget. The breakfast chicken with tomato and onion was a surprise. Dinner's abalone was also a revelation. My DH is a tall and large man. We truly appreciated the length of the bed, the size of the shower and onsen. The only problem is that the hotel staff is not very well-versed in English, though they do try their best.

It was the smallest room, but it seemed to have been renewed, and the wallpaper and so on smelled good in the tatami table. The meal was colored 々 and enjoyed. The tea bowl steaming of foie gras was fat and it was impossible for the elderly, but I had a lot of ground things such as salmon and cow in Joshu. I was happy to see me left-handed and to take care of me to replace the direction of the cheek at breakfast. The table interval was wide, and I could enjoy the meal quietly without worrying about each other. Yubata and bus terminal are close, but it is a calm inn in a quiet place.

Overall staying in this hotel was pleasant, and it was of great value considering the package had already included dinner and breakfast buffet.
Regarding location, it was a bit far from the bus terminal by walking. It took us about 15 minutes, as the route by Google was not quite correct. The main entrance of the hotel was up on a slope, which was not as easy as we were carrying luggage.
Remember to ask the front desk for the password of the back gate. It was a short cut route leading to the main shopping street and the Kusatsu Yubatake.
The room was pleasant and clean, a bit too basic. There was only a socket near the tv wall, not close to the bed, which was a bit inconvenient.
There was wide range of food in the buffet, with some interesting local dishes. Food was delicious. The hotel also offer free late night snack noodle, which worth trying too.

I stayed here when I was on a business trip. The inn is within walking distance of the Kusatsu Onsen Yubatake, and the inn's well-designed design, service, and temperature of the water are reasons why it is so popular. When I checked in, a foreign female staff member explained everything to me very politely and kindly, and her hospitality was clearly conveyed not only at the reception but also when she guided me to my room. The atmosphere of the room was good and it was very comfortable. Dinner was a buffet, and it was a luxurious buffet where you could enjoy a variety of dishes, including Japanese food such as sushi, bluefin tuna sashimi, and tempura, Western food such as pork steak, roast beef, raclette cheese, and pizza, and Chinese food such as mapo tofu. I could order all-you-can-drink for 2,750 yen, so I just ordered draft beer. You can choose between Asahi Super Dry and Kirin Ichiban Shibori for draft beer, but I prefer Asahi Super Dry, so I drank and ordered, drank and ordered, and drank and ordered at a high pace while eating sushi, tempura, and steak. The sushi was a lineup of my favorites, including bluefin tuna, red sea bream, amberjack, and salmon, and although there was a little too much rice, everything was really delicious and even though it was a buffet, it felt very fresh. The pork steak was freshly grilled and delicious, and the mountain vegetable tempura was also freshly fried and delicious. Of all the dishes I tried, the MVP was probably the sushi...! It was so delicious that I would have been happy with 90% sushi and 10% other things. The hot springs after eating and drinking were also great. It was very satisfying. Thank you for the meal.

1. The room was incredibly spacious, with 4 beds even though we were only a party of 3. The mountain view from the room was fantastic!

The log house was terrific! Very clean, comfortable, fully equipped kitchen plus dining table. Floors were heated which added to the cozy feeling. The raised floor where the futons were laid was not heated though. There were a few add on’s; very thoughtful. There’s an interior door to separate the genkan (entry way) to keep out the draft. There is a bear bell for you to borrow at the front door. There are two emergency buttons to sound an alarm if need be. (Not sure if they work). These small details, someone thought about it. Lovely forest all around the log cabin. Dreamy. Only thing missing, no one came to set up the futon beds at night. Self-serve only. We had half-board; both breakfast and dinner were mediocre. Quality of sushi was poor. There are many activities such as bowling and mini golf. The equipment was old. We didn’t want to wear the old bowling shoes provided. Things were old, but nostalgic.

It was 20 minutes before the check-in time, but the attendant in front of the gate greeted me with a smile, took my luggage and guided me to the front desk, and the receptionist also smiled and proceeded immediately. Other staff were comfortable inn to greet you with a smile. I enjoyed a color 々 bath, and the snow view bath from the open air of the muddy hot water was the best. The room is compact and old, but it is satisfied with the hospitality and service of the smile. The rice was also delicious, such as the fried tenkara and the soup cut soup that Itamae made in front of me.

The hotel is brilliant overall. The room was big and clean, with the needed toiletries. The heating might be too warm for my partner and me, and we had to leave the balcony door open to let in fresh air. We definitely love the Japanese balcony and onsen bath. The food for dinner and breakfast was local and delicious. It's easier to get to the hotel if you drive. The hotel does provide shuttles. It would be better if the young staff could learn better English as there were plenty of international tourists. It did create some funny embarrassment. To our surprise, the staff member with the best English was the young lady serving us at the restaurant. We'd like to thank her for this. (P.S. I do speak some Japanese.) In sum, it was a great experience, and we enjoyed the stay. We highly recommend this onsen hotel to fellow tourists.

GGuest UserThis was my first and only stay at a ryokan so I don’t have much to compare it to. I chose this lodging because of the cats and good reviews on the food. The cats were really sweet and I enjoyed playing with them. I have 2 cats of my own so it was really nice. The food was so beautiful and delicious - the mushroom soup at dinner was amazing. I really enjoyed it. The private bath rooms were very convenient and open 24 hrs. I thought the facilities were clean and very pleasant. The location was very close to the central area and a quick walk to all the important sites including the bus station. The only comment I have was in the morning someone was smoking and the smell got ****** into the 2nd floor hallway so maybe more care should be taken to be sure the smoke stays outside. The host was so nice and sweet and I used google translate to ask questions. The matcha madeleines are so tasty I bought a box to take with me.

Fflower_ chickThis was my first time going to Kusatsu Onsen. I had originally booked a different inn, but I changed to this one at the last minute because the reviews on other websites were very good, and breakfast was included and it was a little cheaper.
After staying here, I definitely want to stay here again next time! The following is a long story, but I hope it was helpful.
- About a 7-minute walk from the Yubatake.
The inn is uphill from the Yubatake, but for someone in their early 30s, it wasn't too hard.
Older people might get a little out of breath.
- The inn only has stairs. The rooms only have a toilet, no bathroom.
There are two private baths, and if they are available, you can bathe until 9am.
Amenities include shampoo, conditioner, body soap,
toothbrush, razor, hair band, samue, tabi socks,
bath towel, face towel
(no face wash or makeup remover)
If you are planning to go to a day trip to the hot springs,
it is recommended to bring a face towel from the inn
(be careful not to forget to take it home!)
The breakfast was so delicious and plentiful that it didn't seem like a light breakfast.

The building is like an old house, but it was meticulously cleaned

There are few rooms and it is small, so I think it is recommended for those who want to stay with a small number of people.

WWeichengStaff is extremely friendly, hotel is the mix of modern and old fashion style. Kitchen and common room are modern and clean, bath is authentic. Room is spacious and comfortable. Only thing is the location, it’s up on a hill and around 10 mins walk. So if you’re driving, recommended. If you’re taking public transport and a good walker, recommended. If not, still recommended. 10/10

GGuest UserWhen you arrive, there is no space to stay and drop your luggage. Originally, the car of the first arrival is shifted in the place where the car should be temporarily stopped, and it is good to carry it to the parking lot quickly ... At last, I hold the car and drop my luggage, and when I enter the entrance, I suddenly silently protrude the thermostat to my eyes and I am afraid. There should be a word there ... The carpet is a color that feels the year, and the carpet in the corridor is moldy. The interior and facilities of the room will have been renovated in recent years, and there is a point. However, the throat was painful the next day because there was no humidifier. The room guide is foreign and the Japanese is not transmitted well. It seems that it did not pass through the use of the bed, and when I returned from the meal, the futon was laid. There is no air cleaner, of course, that makes the dust a large layer by repaving. And the bed was hard with a mattress, and the body hurt the next day... In addition, if you ask for a fan for a hot friend, you will not understand it, and another staff (perhaps Japanese) who has finally understood it is ”no need”. No, it's hot to go up the bath, and you can't cut the heating or open the window for others. In other inn, I asked many times in winter, but it was the first experience to be disgusted... seriously this inn. As for the dish, the Joshu beef shabu shabu was ok. The special point was that * was delicious, and the yellow body was elastic and prepri. But the hot spring * of breakfast had a shell... Galilee. The bath had an inner bath and a cave bath of the time system instead of putting, but the entrance of the cave bath was ahead of the outer passage under the freezing point, so it was quite cold when going with yukata. The bath that only makes the wall a cave style is a little cheap with a conkri bare ... once it enters it is enough. The interior is not separately a secret room but under the open air ＝ freezing point, so a vertical cave? Until you enter the Yakuyu bath in the back, you will walk naked and under the freezing point (be careful because it slips). There is the first bath next to you, so let's warm your body there and then go. The inner bath was a large bath ＋ open air, and the open air was awesome ... cleaning?
