Cozy, silent, peaceful, prime location, highly recommended to solo travelers or a group of friends. Aesthetically pleasing. I’ll surely choose Haruya Umekoji upon my next visit to Kyoto. Particularly I loved the way they had this self Checkin customized guide.

It was suche a beautiful hotel! In an old traditional Japanese House! There was Rice porridge for breakfast and it wa whist super comfy and clean! That was our best stay from our Japan trip! The heated blanked desk was such a nice thing for the colder days we spend in Kyoto! We needed to stay one day longer and they were super helpful! I really recommend this

Cute place to stay in a spacious mixed dorm. The dorm was well designed with lockers and lots of small shelves next to the bed plus a sink in the room. Bed was a little hard but not terrible. Found the self check-in process very convenient and clearly explained, you have to pay city tax and any extra charges separately before check-out, which you can do online with a qr code or cash if you have the exact amount. Nice to experience a more traditional building in Kyoto. The free rice porridge and teas and coffee was a great bonus. Plenty of convenience shops nearby and right near Kyoto Station. Overall a really relaxing and cosy place to stay!

I really loved this place. It felt super cosy, I was looking to stay in a traditional Japanese house and this scratched the itch. Check-in is not too confusing, you just follow the instructions provided. Yukatas available to rent. My room was very clean, and I didn't have any problems with noise. Location is good, near two bus stops and a 15min walk from Kyoto Railway station. A highlight is the public bath nearby - highly recommend going!!!

Authentic experience, just what we were looking for! The place was traditional and felt real. Toilets were good, as were the showers, all amenities were fine. I was a little apprehensive about the self check in but it was really easy and straight forwards. Japanese rice porridge was included and a nice touch. Overall, the stay was perfect, exactly what we wanted.

Loved this place so much! It's a shame we only booked one night. We didn't meet the host at all; it was a completely self-check-in experience. Towels, toothbrushes, and other amenities were available for self-service purchase. They also offered bike rentals (1000 JPY per bike per day). Additionally, there was a 200 JPY tax per person. At first, I wondered how to pay the tax since we didn't see the host, but then I found the reservation confirmation and a QR code on the table in the room, which allowed us to scan and pay directly! Our room was on the second floor and had its own toilet and sink, while the shower room was shared and located outside. The room was really beautiful, and the kids loved it. I thought a wooden room might have poor soundproofing, but it was surprisingly quiet. We went to bed before 7 PM and didn't hear a sound. In the morning, we also enjoyed some hot white rice porridge, which was fantastic! I hope to have the chance to stay for a few more nights next time!

The hotel was great, with the nice authentic rooms and common spaces. Sleeping on the futon was actually pretty comfortable, so we enjoyed it a lot! But it would be better if some accessories (like towels and toothbrushes) were included in the price in advance, so we wouldn’t have to bother counting how much we need to give extra while checking out.

Absolutely no need to stay here. It's quite a walk from the station, and dining options nearby aren't very convenient. The place is really run-down, with concrete floors. You have to go downstairs to use the restroom at night. The washbasins are very basic. I've traveled to over a dozen countries and visited Kyoto three times, but I've never stayed in such a terrible Japanese-style room.

I chose this place as I wanted to experience ryokan style and it wasn't a bad decision. No reception needed, just self check-in which easy to do. The place is not far from the JR Kyoto station. Right in front of the hotel has really cool pizza place.

This Japanese hostel makes the most of its space! The capsule beds offer excellent privacy, with individual blackout curtains, reading lights, and charging sockets, ensuring you won't be disturbed at all. The bathrooms and toilets are clean.

It's good, I think this might be the most Kyoto-esque accommodation. However, the heater turns off in the early morning, so if you don't keep the blankets on, it gets really cold. Other than that, everything is great.

Nice place, well located, traditional vibes - not too far from the station, perfect to travel around Kansai area. No physical owner but at the entrance there is a phone that you can use to talk to the owner if you have any question. I definitely recommend !

This is an old-fashioned Japan house, so staying in it was interesting. You also can get free rice porridge in the morning ❤️

Do not go there for the location, service but for the experience of an authentic one century old Japanese. Priceless!

Very dusty and uncleanly, no staff at check in or for reception. Would not recommend for the price.
