"Lunch only and first visit for some years although previously very regular visitor. Extremely disappointing. Understand we had not booked. Told curtly no space in garden and rather offhandedly given table nearest door. Garden tables remained empty all the while we were there. Friendly waitress but most uncomfortable chairs ever sat on in restaurant. No ambience. Ordered light bites platter. Two measly small pieces of bread, one of which was revolting! Whole place looked unkempt. Loos needed new seat and cleaning. I used to absolutely love this place as somewhere to stay and eat. Glad not staying this time. Man in charge (no idea if employee or owner) grumpy . Nothing but negative changes as far as I am concerned and although building could still be lovely needs more love and attention."

"Lunch visit. A venue living on past reputation. Visiting on glowing recommendations, we were very disappointed. Our two lunches lacked flare. The steak pie had hard pastry and the meat was chewy. The pasta was bland with a dry chicken breast. Both dishes could have been hotter. Seating not good, we were pushed into a corner with no Christmas atmosphere. Shame, we will not be returning. Not considered to be value for money. "

"I have had an amazing stay here, very short walk into the town shops very local and even a aldi just outside of the hotel building, and even better train station is less then a 5 minuet walk away , the staff are lovely people too and very welcoming, I personally have had a very good experience with a staff member by the name of Vanessa she is a lovely, bubbly woman and was great help when needed., would definitely recommend!"

"Service was polite and prompt upon feedback. Towels were absent in our room, but they were delivered very quickly on request. Hearty food is also served in the pub. The place is just right for a good night's rest."

"Our stay at this hotel left us feeling a bit underwhelmed. While I wouldn't go so far as to say avoid it entirely, I can't recommend it or see myself returning. The room, advertised as having a king-size bed, disappointingly turned out to be a double. Despite the hotel's emphasis on green choices, the room was unbearably warm upon arrival. We had to open both the windows and the door just to cool it down. This lack of basic comfort seemed counterintuitive to their eco-conscious branding. Furthermore, small but crucial amenities were absent, such as a hairdryer, and some lights weren't working. The absence of an in-room phone meant there was no easy way to request these missing items, adding to the overall inconvenience. The breakfast experience was equally disappointing. The so-called buffet consisted of a small, albeit pleasant, continental breakfast. However, being asked immediately upon arrival if we'd like to pay an additional £10 for a cooked breakfast made the setup feel misleading. At £14.50, the continental breakfast alone did not feel like good value.  The restaurant also had a notice about a £2.50 charge for menu amendments. While I understand the principle of upcharges, this particular policy felt excessive and off-putting. These issues were compounded by a lack of personal touches that form the foundation of good customer service. No one asked at checkout or during breakfast how our stay had been, a small but impactful gesture that could have mitigated some of our disappointments. In hindsight, I feel I overpaid by about 20-30% compared to the value I received. Knowing what I do now, I likely wouldn't have chosen this hotel for our stay."
