Haks Boutique B&B with Pool & Farm-to-Table Dining

Our flight from Lahad Datu to KK was cancelled and I had to find quickly a place to stay. We were very fortunate to get the last room from Hak’s B&B and ended up with a lovely experience and the best dinner in the whole 2 weeks Borneo trip! People were really nice, welcoming drinks beautiful and tasty, the deluxe room with bathroom very clean and comfortable (except the bed was bit on the hard side for our old bones) and dinner and breakfast excellent. The house is beautiful, nice terrace on the second floor where we enjoyed some tea and a nice garden with a small pool to have a dip. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a place to stay in Lahad Datu. Thank you Simon and everyone!!

Wow! Me and my partner came straight here from the Kinabatangan and have found it to be the most charming and perfect place for a relaxing few days after our jungle adventures. The family and staff are all incredibly lovely and go above and beyond to make you feel happy, relaxed and comfortable. We felt so spoilt. The rooms are beautiful. The pool and gardens are stunning. And definitely make sure you try the dinner here. We had our favourite dinner and breakfast in Borneo at this B&B. It’s a must try and a foodie’s dream. Thank you for a lovely stay. We are both so well rested and will be telling everyone about this perfect B&B! Honestly not a bad word to say. Highly recommend! PS - we loved the cats too! Made a welcome change from leeches 😂

A brilliant experience- amazing food (some of the best I have had in my 3 weeks in Malaysia), unbelievable service and care taken by everyone. Simon and Tish, the owners, show so much care over the curated meal. The food from their farm is incredible. A true must for anyone in Sabah. They also have a lovely hotel and organize trips all over Sabah! You can book dinner online or over WhatsApp.

The best accommodation on our Borneo trip. We recommend booking dinner on-site! (Top-rated restaurant in Lahad Datu) Tisha, Simon, and the entire team made our stay in this small, green paradise a unique experience. We were welcomed with an iced blue pea tea with calamansi. The rooms, like the entire property, are very clean and well-maintained. The orchid-filled balcony and the pool are inviting places to linger. A wonderful served breakfast rounded off our stay. Unfortunately, we could only stay one night.

We wanted a comfortable place to stay for our last night in Sabah, after roughing it somewhat in the rainforest. What did we like about the property? In a nutshell, the people and the food! Tisha and Simon (and their helpers) are as friendly and hospitable as any hosts we have ever stayed with, and their home-cooked meals are off the charts. Our welcome was delightful, with warm, family greetings and delicious home-made flowery drinks under an awning. We were made to feel like a cross between VIPs and old friends. We played with the gorgeous household cats and relaxed in the quirky swimming pool until dinner. Tisha had been in touch in advance about food, and she had been incredibly solicitous about what we might want, but what she produced was remarkable. There’s not space here to go into detail, but the main dish was an extraordinary mixture of Malaysian with one surprising Italian ingredient, with a family story to accompany and explain it, made with the freshest, most aromatic ingredients from Simon’s own smallholding, complex without being fussy, and personalised to our individual tastes (eg level of spice). It was truly gourmet comfort food of the highest order; in fact as good as I’ve ever eaten. Starters and dessert were similarly fresh and home-made, and breakfast the next day - porridge oats with a range of home-made and local additions, served like a work of art - was impeccable. Our room (two big double beds with an en-suite shower room) was clean, comfortable and nicely air-conditioned and we slept well, but the reason to stay here is Tisha and Simon’s exceptional hospitality. I cannot commend it highly enough.
