Peacock Guest House ★★★★

📍 38 Charles St, Largs

"We’ve visited Largs for years and always say how good it would be to stay. The problem is there’s not a lot of accommodation in the town. We booked this Peacock guest house for an overnight stay. Pre check-in was well explained and your room key is in a lock box at the front door. All the instructions were clear and all work well. Personally we prefer the low key approach to guest houses. The room we had is on the first floor and was very well furnished, decorated and clean. All the other rooms are on the ground level. I would say that if you have any ailments precluding you from climbing stairs you might be better asking for a ground level room. The stairs are quite steep. Loads of nice touches in the room and we had a good nights sleep. Breakfast is great. All the normal continental choice and also a breakfast that desperate dan would have trouble with. I managed it just but you can ask for as little or as much as you want. Everything was good quality and piping hot. The guest house is positioned nicely a short walk ( 5 minutes) from the train station and the town. All in all a great wee place and good value. We will return and would not hesitate to recommend it to others."

The Old Rectory

The Old Rectory ★★★★

📍 The Old Rectory 2 Aubery Crescent, Largs

"Nice bright clean room with shower en-suite. Too many "rules" dictated on arrival eg.shoes off immediately whilst in house to" keep house clean" ( why have a very pale grey stair and landing carpet?! ) Poorly thought out front door key arrangement. One key per couple to be locked before and after leaving and entering. We felt the poor lady who greeted us was the unfortunate bearer of instructions of a hard taskmaster. Breakfast not offered or even mentioned All in all for a relaxing stay, steer clear. "

Broom Lodge ★★★
"From the moment we arrived at Broom Lodge, we knew we were in for a treat. The real heart of this guest house is the owner, Shona. She is incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel like a regular guest from the first "hello." It is clear she works tirelessly to ensure every guest is well looked after; nothing is too much trouble for her. The lodge itself is maintained to an impeccable standard of cleanliness—everything was absolutely spotless. The location is perfect for exploring Largs, but the real showstopper is the wonderful view across the water to the Isle of Cumbrae. Waking up to that sight was the highlight of our trip. If you are looking for a warm, comfortable, and beautifully situated place to stay in Ayrshire, look no further. We can’t wait to return!"

"Comfortable room with meticulous attention to detail in making sure you had everything you could possibly need. Smooth self-check in process, very well organised. The website says that there is secure bike qnd motorbike storage around the back, however there isn't - but they immediately organised somewhere for our bikes to go safely. The breakfast was absolutely superb, again a lot of attention to detail in making sure that there was plenty of choice, even for those with specific dietary needs. The vegan cooked breakfast was the best we've ever had."

"I recently booked and paid in full in advance for a one night stay at this hotel. I was travelling with my son who was entering a local sporting competition. On the day of travel, BA had significant system issues and all flights were delayed. I contacted the owner twice to keep her informed and having finally got a flight time from BA, explained we would be delayed by about two hours, arriving at about 9/9.30pm. Her response was immediately to cancel our accomodation, citing her terms and conditions and the fact that we had not kept to the original estimated arrival time. I asked if she could please be flexible as this was totally beyond our control. She refused. Consequently I had the stress of trying to book alternative last minute accomodation at considerable extra cost. Worst of all, although the owner was the one to cancel the accomodation, she has kept our full payment and refused any sort of refund. The callous lack of regard for us, her paying guests, quite takes my breath away. Just how difficult would it have been simply to open the front door at 9.30pm instead of 7pm and give us the key to our room? Worse still, then to keep the accomodation fee in full is competely outrageous, when absolutely no service was provided, and we were put to considerable trouble and stress late at night after a long journey, and for no good reason. I dont think I need to say any more. a truly horrible experience."
