Having frequented many Riu Hotels, and as members of their loyalty scheme, we were more than a tad disappointed with our recent stay. Our expectations - based on Riu Hotels in Jamaica, Tenerife, Mexico, Dubai and Spain - was to expect similar high standards in Lanzarote. Unfortunately that did not prove to be the case. Whilst there are some positive points - particularly the staff, who in the main were polite and efficient - the negatives out weigh the positives. Firstly, the fact that this is two hotels joined into one gives a disconnected feel, plus an annoying trek from one side of the hotel to the other. Secondly, it is a long time since we have stayed in a hotel room with an empty fridge, with no room service to boot! Other Riu Hotels have optics on the wall, and a fridge full of beer and soft drinks - but not here! On to the food - to be honest, the breakfast was poor. You cannot order a freshly made omelette, which is generally my favourite, and astonishingly there is no fresh bread (other than sliced bread or rolls). As for lunch - well, I was astounded by the poor choice available at the snack bars - where hygiene was certainly not a feature - mainly other guests too lazy to use the tongs provided. To be fair, the dinner selection was decent AI food - with lots of choice, but as always very repetitive. Drinks at the bars were just as to be expected - normal local spirits, but quite drinkable. I have to say tho that this recently created habit of lining up in a queue to get served is not for me, I would far rather take my chance of being served at the bar, which I have perfected over many years, many years! To end on a positive note, I will repeat the staff here are pleasant and a credit to the brand. Sorry if my comments are negative - but they are my honest opinion.
