Sunset Acres Motel

This is a really run-down, low-quality motel. SKIP IT! DANGEROUS (maybe even illegal) items: Water is scaldingly hot. The single-handle control in shower is broken, spins 360 degrees, so it's VERY difficult to avoid being burned. My wife burned her face before we knew it was broken. There are NO smoke alarms in room. No grab bars ANYWHERE in bathroom/shower. The step down outside the door is almost a foot high, with no hand-hold. Very dangerous if you're not exceedingly careful. Needs another intermediate step outside door. Deadbolt lock inop/damaged. Useless NO ONE is on-site. No phone in rooms. Calling motel number gets only a voicemail, and a text with partial answer to questions "sometime" later. Non-Dangerous Items/Convenience: Needs: Another small waste container bathroom Extra bath mat for multi-day stay Mat in front of sink As I said, there is no one on site, and they don't send instructions for checkin until "just before check-in". The basic instructions, including WHEN to expect the details, should be sent with reservation confirmation. Very basic "Nice-to-have:" There are almost NO amenities: Only the tiniest sliver of soap for 3 days, no shampoo. No Kleenex. Curtains don't cover windows. No chair/desk anywhere, or luggage racks. Just an extremely flimsy round bedside table. No place to put suitcases. No garment hooks in bathroom for clothes. Some of these would be very inexpensive to address. In any case, we will NOT be staying there again.

Sunset Acres is a really cute little motel with a nice room, but if you’re sensitive to cigarette smoke, this may not be the best choice. The smell was strong enough that I coughed until I fell asleep. Otherwise, it’s a charming spot, but the lingering smoke takes away from the comfort.

It was a decent place for the price. It could use some updating. It smelled funny when you first walked in. We weren't sure if it was **** or cleaner? There was a mouse trap under the sink which was a bit nerving.....but we did not see any signs of mice. We would stay here again.

Pictures were way nicer than actual hotel. It was not horrible but not at all what we expected based on pictures and previous reviews.

Good location in route to Hillsdale. It’s obvious that they care about what they offer and I found the staff very helpful.

The sheets were dingy. The room had an odor and I found a joint under my bed.

We will probably stay again next year.

After a harrowingly bad night at a motel nearby, we found this charming place. It's very country, decor wise and small. Don't expect a lot of amenities. It's not meant for, or in that class of stay. If you want a cheap $-wise, CLEAN place for two or three, this place is all that. Sheets were fresh, CLEAN,. Showers and bathroom is small, but CLEAN. Full fridge, microwave, coffee pot, TV, open closet, QUIET. Perfect for a stay. The owner could not have been nicer. Polite, accommodating ( we needed to shower after a horrible night at a nearby motel) and he was willing to let us check in at 9AM! Thank you sir! I will return here on my next trip

We were planning a night of stargazing at Lake Hudson Recreation Area, and wanted a place to stay so as not to drive all the way home late at night. This place was like nostalgic roadside motel of my youth merged with modern Airbnb. The room was very small (appropriately priced as such, in my opinion), but quite adequate for our needs, renovated and decorated in such a lovely way. I noted in particular some generous padding under the carpet that made it comfortable for walking around the room. We spent a very short time at the motel so we didn't take advantage of the coffeepot, fridge, and microwave, or the many places for relaxing outside. If we ever go back for another night at the dark sky park, we'll head to Sunset Acres for sure.
