The check-in process to Happy@Chiado is complex and frustrating as the landlord is never there, and there is a series of codes, doors and instructions to follow just to get in. I was also instructed to send the City Tax by bank transfer before I arrived. There are two shared bathrooms for guests, the light in the hallway to which does not work properly so you are struggling to find the bathroom door. When you find the door to the shared bathroom and close it, you find it does not lock, not when closed. Therefore there is no privacy as you cannot lock the bathroom door from the inside once it is closed. The WiFi only worked intermittently. I had booked and paid for for three nights – I was immediately looking for somewhere else before I had unpacked. I only stayed there one night and the landlord refused to refund me the rest, only part of the first night. I would advise anyone not to stay here – and I am a travel journalist who has to stay in many kinds of places in many cities.
