We live fairly near and have visited before. It has a stunning location right on the River Dee. Today we called in for a coffee and a pastry mid-afternoon on a beautiful warm sunny day and we sat outside. When we arrived we were met by a delightful lady called Lisa on reception who was lovely - so helpful, warm and welcoming. We had to log our car registration with her/reception to enable free parking in the car park - otherwise it's an £8 charge. This is presumably to deter casual parking as there's a canal walk adjacent to the hotel. Because Lisa made us feel so welcome we plan to come back very soon for a Sunday lunch in the restaurant which has tables directly overlooking the river. Lisa was a real credit to the hotel and certainly encouraged us to visit again!

The Chainbridge hotel has one of the most beautiful settings of any hotel in Wales and this could be their only redeeming feature as the rest of the service provide was lacklustre at best. We returned after a year and one the items I was most looking forward to was enjoying the cooked breakfast while sitting right next to the cascading river Dee the highlight of my previous year’s trip to Chainbridge. Sadly there is no longer a cooked breakfast it has been replaced by what the Chainbridge Hotel calls a “Continental Breakfast”. I have had many continental breakfasts but this didn’t even resemble that. I do hope this is not going to become a countrywide trend where breakfast included turns out to be a few slices of bread and instant coffee. I will not be returning to the Chainbridge.

Lovely location, nice river view, clean room with balcony. Disappointed with meals, just run of the mill fast food, no cooked breakfast. The continental breakfast was disappointing, only cooked ham on offer, the crossiant was brioche. Staff polite but not readily available. Wouldn't stay again, but would stay again at Bridge end pub Llangollen.

Our 2nd time here. Love the location, the bedrooms, clean, overlooking the river. The sound of the flowing river and the balcony a big plus. Room no.41 has double aspect windows. It was just gorgeous.

We have been visiting the chain bridge for many years regularly-since the 1960s and always had excellent meals until today. Certainly not a Sunday roast as usual and certainly not well cooked! Party of 6 and all very disappointing. Very ordinary menu with choices available in any local pub! Could not even cook roast potatoes correctly-very overcooked-could not even cut them! After going there for 50 years on a regular basis as we are local we will not going again.

We had a great midweek stay at this unique hotel. The location is truly magical with the beautiful river Dee in front of the hotel and the crystal clear canal behind. The views are wonderful. We had a first floor bedroom with a balcony ( no lift but staff are on hand to assist with cases ). It was a lovely room with everything we needed. We loved sitting on the balcony taking in the views and watching the canoe's, etc coming down the river .The heritage railway is the other side of the river and we saw the steam train one day. The continental breakfast served until 10am was great quality and items were quickly replenished. We had both lunch and dinner at the hotel and the choice and quality was excellent. The staff throughout the hotel were brilliant and Lisa on reception was such a friendly, lovely person with a great customer service attitude. From the initial telephone booking to our departure the service was first class. The hotel is a few minutes walk to the lovely Horseshoe Falls and a few minutes drive to the town. We spent all the time at the hotel and the Falls in the hot weather only using the car on departure. The area is a World Heritage site and is one of the most beautiful places in Wales. One of the best hotels we have had the pleasure of staying at. Great value for this quality. Highly recommended.

Some great elements, but TLC and attention to detail are needed. Location fabulous, staff efficient and friendly, we had a lovely evening meal... delicious fish pie. Aesthetic is nice, and the outdoor spaces and flowers gorgeous.. but it does feel a but unloved. Tatty signs sellotaped to the bedroom patio door and in the restaurant, despite being overall very clean, manky sealant in the shower and sink is off-putting and inexcusable at any price point. Other bit need attention too, such as our balcony was HUGE, but chairs and a tatty table just looked lost. Balcony felt in cared for... paint flaking off the wall and no light We'd return.. this is a nice hotel, but really hope the management do a thorough rece and get some snagging done.

My wife and I had a stay at the Chainbridge in one the ground floor rooms allocated for people with dogs. However, when we entered the room we were hit by a rather strong musty(damp) smell. I went straight to reception and reported this. I asked if there were any other similar rooms available. She said they were fully booked and would report it. We went for some food which was really nice except for the pudding and noticed that the manager/owner was in the bar area. I mentioned my concerns to him and the reply was what I expected. He informed me that because the room was situated between the canal and river that it was quite normal for the room to smell of damp. Not what I expected. Won’t be staying here again, which is sad as the hotel was in a beautiful location.
