The hotel is in an amazing location. We were there for the Wine Safari and overnight stay - a Christmas Present from our family. The safari was so much fun and well thought out! The musician playing at all the stops magical. Plenty of wine ( and food) tasted. Tom made the event a lot of fun. Lunch at the barn afterwards was also amazing. The food lovely and well paired with the wines we were served. A great opportunity to meet and chat with new people. Our room was possibly one of the nicest I have stayed in- eclectic decoration , clean and everything thought of. We definitely return for the safari and/or an overnight stay

Pleasant but not quite up to the standard you would expect at this price point. We stayed in the ‘treehouse’ which was novel but really quite cramped and uncomfortable. We also hired the bbq hut which despite its name wasn’t really suitable to BBQ in. Couldn’t fault the breakfast or the setting. Weather being perfect also helped. There are probably better ways to spend £400 on a night away in this part of the world.

Visited with friends on a DB&B deal. Friends had been before and highly rated the establishment. Location is very picturesque. Room was comfortable; lock didn’t lock from outside with the key; tv had very confusing channel set up; room lighting could have been more flexible; would be very easy to hit your head on the glass shelf above the sink. Before dinner, went into lounge; were given drinks menu and wine list. Had to chase to place drinks order; and had to ask for menu to decide on wine choice. No one came to get second drinks order nor to take food order. We were told to place food order at table; so we went to table. Menu was limited and phrased in language I had some difficulty understanding. Portions for all courses were very small; and there seemed to be no way to add “sides” if you were hungry. Several of us including myself had the venison; it was very disappointing - chewy. The wine was good. At the end of the meal, we had to sign for wine and drinks as they were not part of the “deal”. We noticed that a gratuity of 12.5% had been added not just to what we were signing for, but the whole deal. Inappropriate timing. We were not offered coffee, but were given an unusual infusion of a sort of lemon tea. No digestivs offered. Next morning, we came down for breakfast. I asked for two poached eggs, firm yolks and crispy bacon. The bacon was incinerated and the plate had some form of grease pooling from the bacon. The egg yolks were firm but somehow they lacked flavour. The female staff were very pleasant and helpful, charming. The male staff did not seem suited to their roles.

About the 8th time we have visited this wonderful bolt hole! The room, room 11 was spotless and the decor perfect. Comfy beds reign here ! The team are on it and service slick and friendly always a chat somewhere. Wine list and drinks special mention to ‘Lisa’s gin delicious. Great food dined twice during our stay as always bang on cooking great value lots of little touches and every dish innovative, each night a fresh menu and a choice of dishes Excellent! Coupled with a top notch breakfast with the most Devine haggis! Plus again a great choice of dishes to choose from the MHOR pleases again ! Thank you we will be back promise.

First visit, much to like, but room for improvement. Location excellent Staff Excellent Breakfast Excellent Dinner very good (food and service). Room for improvement? Little or no ambience in dining room (in conservatory) not helped by babies and dogs. Would expect something more akin to The Peat Inn or Prestonfield at similar price point. Plumbing, heating, lighting in room. Often an issue in old Scottish properties, solved by investment and thoughtful design. We had several problems, and judging by the reviews issues with hot water are not new. Bearable since we were on an Itison deal, poor value if not.

The whole experience was fabulous, the staff were so helpful, nothing was too much bother. The accommodation and food were first class. The bar was a delight. We will definitely return on the future, it’s been one of the nicest places to stay in Scotlan.

We took friends to celebrate their 60th birthdays and had the best of times from start to finish. Drinks in a cosy living room followed by a lovely dinner where the six of us were sat in a separate area from the other guests, at our request, to let our hair down a little. At all times the staff, from reception to the dining room, were excellent and went out of their way to ensure our stay was a happy stay…..they succeeded. Our room was super clean and comfortable with nice smelling hand and body wash etc. The grounds of the hotel are very interesting and we enjoyed games on the lawn outside as well as a lovely walk in beautiful countryside. Can’t recommend this place enough
