"Facilities in the room were basic but clean. There was a balcony overlooking a small lake which was really lovely with geese and ducks around. The area was well kept with picnic tables and there were lots of dog walkers. Breakfast was available at the services next door but we did not use them. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful."

"3 weeks before a wedding the Manager, Glenn tried to change to here from the Dryfesdale. Please refer to my review of the OYO Dryfesdale Hotel (he has about 4 set up around the Dryfesdale name to try and steer people away from his awful reviews on the OYO site. Needless to stay, don't book either hotel for a special occasion unless you want your event cancelled at short notice!"

"If you want a small hotel in a quiet village location, convenient for the main road to (or from) the North; with a very warm welcome; which is clean; has a comfortable bed; good food; an amazing selection of whiskies; friendly fellow guests and locals - then I recommend the Hightae Inn. Morag and Mark are excellent hosts: chatty, interested, informative and helpful. My room looked out across a garden (the next door neighbour could tidy this up!) to a field of cows and the sheep in the distance on the rolling hills. The Hightae Inn is a former pub with rooms and it suited me perfectly as an overnight stay on my journey to Glasgow. It's easy to find; (it isn't in Lockerbie, take the Lockerbie junction off the motorway, drive on the A709 into Lochmaben, round Castle Loch and you'll find Hightae. They warned me about Sat Navs and mine wanted to lead me a merry dance.) Negatives: None really except that I was too long for the bath! I had the upstairs room near the grumbling boiler and that wasn't a problem (and they are going to fix it). I slept like a log. This is a part of Scotland that most people drive straight through and I think it would be good to come back here next time and spend a bit longer to explore the area. I am sure of a warm welcome and that whatever whisky I want, they'll probably have it."

Dryfesdale Hotel, BW Signature Collection ★★★★

"Unfortunately stayed here for my wedding, after booking I read the negative reviews but chose to ignore them, wish I hadn't, the only good thing about my day was the wedding venue, everything at the hotel was abysmal. The food, the service (except Aidan) the "bridal suite" that was the same as everyone else's room! I spoke with Glen (manager) not long after the booking and came off the phone knowing we had made a mistake, has to be the most abrasive hotelier ive had the misfortune of coming into contact with, he is definitely not happy to help and the customer better just put up and shut up. The hotel is a cash cow and they do not care about you or your day. Thankfully my family made it special because they certainly didn't. The wedding breakfast was low rate, I didn't eat any of it. Steak chewy, not asked how you like it cooked, I really could go on but I'm going to run out of characters. Neither the company I booked the wedding through, the hotel or the hotel chain are taking any responsibility, just taking Glen's word for it, and to make it worse he lies too! He should not be allowed to run a hotel, he does it badly. Please don't bother replying Glen as you will only lie! "
