First stay here after being excited about the restoration of this amazing listed art deco building for the past few years. The interior and standard of restoration is phenomenal and really respects the lovely 30s municipal art deco features of the building throughout. Staff are lovely and friendly and very helpful when approached - it’s a far more laid back, pleasant environment than bigger busy London hotels. The rooms are fitted out to a very high standard and have a luxurious and comfortable feel, complete with parquet flooring, marble bathroom features and fully integrated kitchens - there’s really nothing they haven’t thought of! The only snag we had on our stay was the housekeeping - this may be an area the hotel needs to improve on to maintain a premium feel. We returned one day and the housekeeper had forgotten to service our room and reception staff couldn’t find anyone to do so on site at 4.45pm. We eventually got some towels etc and emptied bins ourselves, but felt this let the otherwise brilliant service down somewhat. Staff were however lovely, apologetic and helped where they could - so I wouldn’t remove a star from this otherwise 5* review! It’s well worth exploring the building - the coffee bar downstairs is a lovely relaxing place to visit with Monmouth coffee also.
