I booked for two nights so we could travel on the underground to visit The Beefeater Gin Distillery near The Oval. First impressions were good, car park was nice a big. I’d asked for a quiet room and we were given a room on the ground floor at the end of the corridor looking out on the trees at the back. Whilst we thought it was a rubbish view we quickly realised that it was so lovely and quiet with the window open, you couldn’t hear the road just birds. Almost felt like we were in the countryside. The room was clean. The first night was great it was so quiet and if it hadn’t of been for the hard as a rock bed we would have slept pretty well. Unfortunately the next night wasn’t so good as we had a large family turn up next to us who were up banging doors and talking till around 2am (and they had small kids)! Our quiet room quickly became a noisy one unfortunately. This hotel served its purpose though and meant we could travel up in the car with ease and not have to drive into central London. The underground station is a 20min walk and it was a 20min trip to The Oval. There are a lot of reviews about how great customer service is and whilst they weren’t bad it wasn’t that great either. One day I was waiting at the desk behind two men that took up the whole desk on either side talking very loudly to each other, I thought they were being checked in. Turned out they were the hotel’s maintenance men. The lady behind the desk asked if I was ok but she never moved them to one side so I could get to the desk, I assume she wanted me to shout over them to her as to why I was stood there. When they finished their conversation and started to move away the lady behind reception looked all confused at me and said ‘I asked if you were ok?’ I said I couldn’t hear her as they were so loud and I thought she was serving them anyway. I mean they never moved either to let me get to the desk. I just thought at any other hotel that wouldn’t happen. Staff behind the desk never seemed to be sat there and always hidden away behind a wall. In order to get their attention you had to ring the bell, I only did this once and I felt like I was putting her out. We ate at The Harvester both nights and had breakfast one morning. No need to book unless it’s the weekend. The weather was great too so we could sit in the pub garden which made all the difference to our stay. All in all we’d go back due to the ease of getting to central London and the fact there’s a Harvester so close by.
