The Colney Fox by Innkeeper's Collection

Unfortunately we had to spend 3 nights in this pub/hotel! It was paid for by my company & clearly they didn’t check it out. The welcome was ok. The stair case up to the room was filthy & smelt dreadful. The room looked ok on the surface. I wanted to close the window but I think it would have fallen out if I tried. It had an inner pulldown plastic window which didn’t drown out the noise from the road. The window ledge was full of dead flies, mosquitos of which I was very badly bitten. The bathroom was not as pictured on the website, no toiletries, just a nearly empty hand wash & a very empty shower gel. The seat of the chair was filthy & the thermostat for the radiator was on the floor. No new towel, just folded & put back on the radiator. Also only 2 coat hangers & no drawers or wardrobe!!!!

Spent 4 nights last week, problems straight away. Got in room, used toilet, flush not working at all, had to move to another room, this took ages as all were booked. Shown new room, the whole corridor smelt of sewage, in my opinion there are plumbing issues in this place, used shower (small quadrant type), water filled tray, had to keep stopping to let it drain. Rooms grubby, windows filthy. If you like a bit of quiet be aware in my room I could clearly hear the buzz of a fan for long period each night (might have been kitchen, seemed to cut off around 10pm?). TV didn’t work well at all, got batteries from reception, took ages to get, 2 cheap batteries given, lasted a few hours, following day tv froze completely and that was that (tried using the side controls, nothing). Said I was having an early departure 0500 asked for a receipt, I need it for expenses, was told can’t be done it will be sent, I explained I would prefer to have a print, I got s print and my email address was wrong, they just put in a generic email as the didn’t ask me (just as well I didn’t wait for email of receipt). Also asked for it to be sent by email, was assured it would be, nothing from them. Not cheap either around £100 per night breakfast on top. Honest review, hope I can save someone some grief.

Nothing wrong with the room, clean and everything i needed, it was the downstairs noise that I wasn't happy with, even though the pub closed at 22:30 tonight, there are still people laughing, joking and talking at midnight, then they went outside smoking underneath my room and the same, then back in side again. I am up at 3am for work so I'm going to feel shocking all day!

I've eaten here a few times before being down here on business. Definitely better than the Holiday Inn Express where I'm staying! Well I love a good steak. A few years ago I went to a restaurant in Liverpool and ordered a medium rare steak. When it arrived I asked for a steak knife. Turns out it was the owner. He said that if I needed a steak knife to eat the steak I could have the meal for free. What a fantastic steak it was! Tonight, the steak knife couldn't even cut through it. Enough said.

Was taken here by family who had praised this pub up a lot & got to admit it was as good as they had told me. A wonderful roast one of the best roasts from a pub for a long time, as a lot of pub roast are poor & not good value at all. Very enjoyable visit would most certainly go back again.

Room clean and spacious. The staff are really lovely. The starter was ok and the main was excellent. I had the prawn/chorizo and then the lamb shank. We were served by Elisa who was lovely and the service was super quick. Will definitely come back.
