Be careful of being unknowingly charged with a ‘discussionary charge of tips’ (supposed to be A Conpulsory charge of tips, don’t be fool by the name, it is non-discussionary) AFTER CHECKING OUT of the hotel. I was being charged with a discussionary charge of the tips on the credit card automatically without being informed upfront after I checked out and left the hotel. When I checked out, i was informed at the counter that they were closing their account for previous day and they would help me check out my room and email me the invoice of my stay after they finished closing account. As a result, I innocently left the hotel since I thought a 5-star hotel would not have anything gone wrong. However, I was totally wrong until I saw extra charges on my credit card while not receiving any so called invoice from the hotel at all. I then reached out to Trip.com to request for the invoice that they have promised to send to me and it was then I was informed that the extra charges were from a discussionary charge of tips. I wasn’t happy about the way this was done hence I requested for a refund for this since it clearly stated this is a DISCUSSIONARY fee, not a compulsory fee. However, I was informed that this is a Non-refundable fee and my request was denied. Out of so many hotels I have stayed, it is unbelievable that in a 5-Star hotel, I was forced to pay something that wasn’t even being informed upfront. In addition, with the fee name suggested, it is a discussionary charge of tips NOT a compulsory charge of tips, the hotel has forced the customers to pay it as COMPULSORY CHARGE OF TIPS. In addition, the hotel services were very inefficient and lot of rooms for improve. We ordered for an in-room meal and we were told that it would take about half an hour to deliver. Hence we waited, and until an hour later, there was no update on our meal and we had to make a call again to check for the progress of our meal. It was then we knew there was a delay in the meal. By the time we done with our meal, we made the call again to request for someone to collect the plates, we literally waited for more than an hour and had to call twice before someone came to pick up the plates. This shouldn’t have been the service received in a 5-star hotel and the worst of all, the hotel should have more transparency in their charges and should have informed the customers on the charges upfront before the actual charging. When we signed for the amount paid for the meal, there were no statement on the discussionary charge of tips at all, and we didn’t expect there would be as we were not even informed. It is not that we are unwilling to give the tips and we did give the tips during the stay. However, it made us very uncomfortable that we weren’t informed anything upfront and it was charged to my credit card AFTER we CHECKED OUT of THE HOTEL. It made us feeling very unsafe to provide the credit card to the hotel as they can charge whatever charges they want after checking out the hotel. In addition, it is a discussionary charge, isn’t it should be discussed before I was being charged? If not it should be called a a compulsory charge of tips.

London - Paddington

We had a very disappointing stay at Hotel Indigo, as our room was plagued with problems that the front desk had little sympathy for and lots of excuses. Half our stay (4 out of 8 nights) we went without AC - 4 sleepless nights in a room with temperatures in the 80s. Every time we reported it to the front desk, we were given a different excuse - from “it’s a known issue”, to “the whole neighborhood block is having problems (which made zero sense as AC in every other part of the hotel), to “maintenance is looking into it”. One morning, our room lost all power, and again, after a sleepless night, we made our way to the front desk, where we were told it was a neighborhood power grid issue. I explained that made no sense, as the maid next door was vacuuming and no where else in the hotel had lost power. Thankfully maintenance came to investigate (after much arguing with the front desk) and he said the card key controller that powers the room was broken, hence no power. A whole morning was lost to this, and we missed our prepaid excursion. Another morning the safe would not open - which is a horrible feeling with all our cash and passports locked away. Again, more time wasted waiting for someone to come and fix - maintenance told us not to use as the safe was old and broken. My biggest complaint was the lack of concern and attention from the front desk. No one seemed to know or care what we were going through, and we were made to feel like a nuisance when we had serious problems with our room. Upon checkout, we were asked how our stay was. I said it was honestly very disappointing, and explained all the issues we had. The front desk replied “Oh, I’m sorry. Would you like a copy of your invoice?”. Upon our return home, I received an email from the hotel inviting me to share feedback on our stay. I documented all the above, and asked for a follow-up reply. Almost immediately after it was sent, I received a form letter reply. As a loyal IHG Gold Elite member, I purposely booked this property over Marriott Bonvoy, even though this stay cost us much more. After this unacceptable experience, I will be spending future hotel stays with Marriott Bonvoy, where I am respected as a guest.

I have more relaxed room requirements. I think as long as the bedding is relatively clean1, I am more satisfied with a separate bathroom. For some reason, I had to leave Shakespeare, move down from the top floor, check out, and wait three hours to check in with the dolphin. This time it's good, it's arranged on the first floor 884. The space is larger than Shakespeare's 441, and the bed is more comfortable.

Excellent service when checking in, really efficient. We arrived early but this wasn't an issue. The room was clean and had everything we needed. If you are looking for a hotel in a quiet location this may not be for you, however the hotel provide ear plugs.

The hotel has a great location next to Paddington station, which is where you arrive with the Heathrow express or the Elisabeth line. The staff is friendly and service minded. We did not have breakfast at the hotel, since there are plenty of nice options in the area. Be aware that the rooms have next to no space for hanging or storing your clothes, and there is no air conditioning. Also, if you have a room facing the street you will hear a lot of noice. It is a busy area around the hotel, both day and night. Rooms facing the back are much more quiet (our kids had a room with that location, while me and my wife had one towards the street). All in all, a good option for an extended weekend or similar. Perhaps not to recommend in the middle of the summer, unless you are ok with a warm room.

Staff were all very nice and attentive. I booked very last minute and wasn't sure how long I would need to stay so I ended up in two different rooms. Both were small, but super cozy, impeccably clean, and well maintained. Hardly any noticeable wear and tear. The beds were very comfortable. The area is perfect with easy access to different transportation options and many restaurants, pubs, and stores nearby. I loved that there was a little park just outside. I felt safe in the area and often walked about in the evening. Keep in mind there are a lot of stairs and some of them are a bit steep and narrow. The rooms I had did not have private bathrooms, but did have a sink in the room for freshening up. Another thing to note is that there are only a couple bathrooms and they may not be very close to your room which can be inconvenient for middle of the night toilet runs having to sleepily navigate narrow stairs. All in all a nice place to stay if you are on a budget and looking for a clean and comfortable room.

So many things were awful about this hotel, to be fair it was very cheap and the location is good which is its only 2 positives… but honestly wished we paid a bit more to stay somewhere that wasn’t so horrible. We didn’t want to spend any time in it at all; - The paintwork was peeling, loads of stains on the wall and carpet disgusting - The bathroom was rank, all mouldy and dirty and smelt so strongly of damp you had to hold your breath - The shower was gross and there were moths in it - The bathroom light didn’t switch off! - There was only 1 bath towel supplied for a double room - We spent 20 mins knocking to get in at about 1am (it’s 24 hour reception) and when the guy finally answered the door he was incredibly rude to us! - The bed was uncomfortable There was a nice guy on reception when we left who was possibly the manager/owner and seemed nice but overall really do not recommend staying here.

Great location right opposite the Paddington underground station. Room was clean and spacious with tea and coffee facilities…. The room has air conditioning that you can control unlike the other Hilton at tower bridge they had set temperatures. Obviously to save money.. the only let down was I tried to get some milk for tea around 11pm nobody answered the phone besides room service who told me to contact housekeeping … I ended up buying a bottle of milk from a shop opposite the hotel … even reception was not answering
