The position was perfect just inside the wall so easy to get to and then we were able to walk everywhere.. it rained the entire time for us but we will be back as loved it all the same

Good, but too expensive

Pros: Location & Room: The location is excellent, and the room itself was clean and spacious. Cons: Unresolved AC Issues: We stayed for four nights (Room 3003) with my 79-year-old mother-in-law. From day one, one of the main AC units was completely broken. Staff acknowledged the issue and provided a fan, promising a technician by our final night. The technician never fixed it. When we reported it again, staff (Vanessa) attempted to convince us it was working when it clearly wasn't. Because of the heat, we gave the only cool room to my mother-in-law, while my wife and I spent four nights sweating. Other guests on our floor reported the exact same AC issues. I was told someone would call me to discuss further, but they never called. Lack of Housekeeping & Amenities: Basic housekeeping was neglected throughout our stay. We were told the hotel doesn't carry washcloths, and housekeeping failed to replenish essential supplies like toilet paper, drinking water, or coffee for the entire four days. Unhelpful Management: Upon checkout, I asked to speak with a manager regarding these severe inconveniences. I was told a credit or partial refund was impossible and was instead offered a voucher for a 2-night future stay. Since we traveled from Miami for a once-in-a-lifetime trip and have no plans to return to Lucca, a future voucher is useless. Verdict: While the space and location are good, basic comfort, functional facilities, and responsive management are lacking for a hotel of this tier. I would not recommend staying here.

When searching for a hotel in Lucca, the Grand Universe hotel often came up but only after checking the site did I see they had another property a few blocks away with large, beautifully designed rooms with extra high ceilings. The annex building (La Residenza) appeared brand new as rooms were very fresh. It was also in the perfect location, just a 5 minute walk to the train and right by the walled entrance. There are many coffee shops, restaurants and shops right outside your doorstep. We loved our stay here and can't wait to return on our next visit to Lucca.

Spectacular property in Lucca. It’s total perfection in every way. Impeccably maintained and appointed, staff is incredible and amenities are amazing. You can not get a better location.

My wife and I stayed in the two-bedroom top floor "Thyme" apartment at La Residenza in Lucca recently, and the experience was like living an episode of The Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Located in the walled part of the city that's a ten-minute walk to the train station, the apartment is beautifully furnished and decorated, and it includes the most comfortable beds, three huge flat-screen TVs, wonderfully appointed bathrooms with huge showers, and gorgeous original wood beam ceilings. The fully equipped kitchenette had brand new appliances, including a large fridge, oven, stovetop, dishwasher, pots and pans, dishes, glassware and silverware. The staff is absolutely amazing. There is an on-site receptionist who caters to the guests every need. They also have a butler for the guests, and breakfast can be brought to your room from La Residenza's sister property, The Grand Universe Lucca, which is a three-minute walk away. The entrance to La Residenza is tucked away in a very quiet part of Lucca, providing guests with complete privacy from the crowds and other guests. My wife and I have stayed in dozens of beautiful hotels throughout Tuscany over the past twelve years and La Residenza is by far our favorite.

Spectacular in every way! This one of a kind boutique property is absolutely gorgeous. Every detail and comfort is here! My husband and I feel like we are in Tuscan heaven. We don’t ever want to leave. We have traveled all over Italy and this property by far exceeds any other hotel residence. We also noticed several recognizable faces staying here but only saw them at glance entering the building because each residence/room is very private. No more staying in Florence - Lucca and Grand Universe is our new home away from home. Staff goes above and beyond as well. I almost forgot - a butler is on sight to handle any special needs. Breakfasts at their sister property a few doors down The Grand Universe Lucca is also amazing.
