We've come back from a 2 night stay and have to say we had a great experience. On arrival my husband told the gentleman at reception it was his birthday and whilst we sat enjoying the complimentary tea and coffee in the garden he arranged to have chocolate truffles in the room ready for our arrival - this level of detail continued throughout the visit with lovely morning breakfasts and a super curry night last night...our room was lovely and quirky, with a shabby but beautifully stylish design. It opened up into the outdoor courtyard area where some elements of the spa were located providing us with direct access - today on our last day we got talking to Will, the SPA manager/ attendant and he was so knowledgable and helpful in explaining how to use the various components on offer for health benefits, guiding us and reassuring us in the use of the plunge pool even... yes, we plunged! Yes, it was cold! But great .. we loved our time here from start to finish and will definately be back... we topped our visit off today with a visit to Wells which is not far away, they have market days on Wednesdays and Saturdays - we highly recommend both!! ... and will definately be back.

Not sure where to start pulled up and looked amazing man at reception very nice, went downhill from there already paid for room and breakfast in advance then paid for spa in advance and then they wanted another £50 holding fee. Room wasn’t ready taken for complimentary tea/coffee while waiting we went back 15 mins later and man took us to room which was still being cleaned so back we went to wait another half hour. Finally got into room which was amazing until laid in bed and fell through the middle of the 2 single beds pushed together to make a large bed . Thought we would get a coffee in room but no milk. Went to spa and was very disappointed pool was cold hot tub was full of people so couldn’t use steam room was ok after we put water onto the stone but very small room. Went back to room had shower before dinner but shower was full of flies. Sink so low (great for disabled guests in wheelchair) not for people standing. Went to dinner and not much choice for vegetarians but had the roast as that only choice really. Items not available. Then had dessert which was very overpriced indeed and description wasn’t what the item was to be told that cost £95 one drink each main meal and dessert. Went to breakfast items in menu unavailable again. Went to check out not as friendly as day before paid final bill for food but didn’t get the £50 taken off final bill was told that would appear back on card at some point. Hazard tape on floor carpet dirty and very worn out. Very disappointed not the experience I hoped for and was for husband birthday treat

We booked this stay as a last minute night away. Having stayed at Charlton house regularly when it was previously owned, but having a terrible experience the last time we stayed, we were unsure what to expect. On arrival, check in was quick and efficient. The downstairs of the hotel has been tidied up and is smart yet cosy. Our room was at the top of the hotel (12) and although small, was comfortable and had what we needed. The room could do with a new carpet and windows but was clean and served its purpose. The spa has been revamped and was great, there is now a small room with sofas allowing more space for relaxing. The restaurant food was delicious, all arriving hot and tasting great. We had steak and risotto for main and would definitely order these again. The service was slow but we were in no rush. After avoiding this hotel for the last few years and being put off by some recent bad reviews, we are glad that we gave the hotel a second chance and will definitely be returning.

Sunday lunch is the best I have ever had! Very clean, friendly staff, superb range of drinks. Great atmosphere! I would highly recommend this place to visit for casual drinks - you don’t have to be a member to go in. Superb food, the rum baba desert- oh my word!

On paper, it seemed to be the ideal getaway for us; a couple looking to unwind without the kids, but unfortunately turned sour the moment we arrived. We booked the Junior Suite - the second most expensive offering - for a single night as part of the 'suite retreat' package. As we went through the online checkout process the three-course dining option was displayed as an upsell, including the available menu. Okay, sure. We were planning to dine in the restaurant anyway and the menu appealed to us both. With £104 added to the bill, we completed the purchase, £388 lighter but all set. It started with high hopes; the resort was responsive to my request for afternoon tea instead of champagne - it'd be a shame to drink alone with my wife being pregnant. The resort contacted me quickly to discuss check-in times and to collect my details. A great start. Upon arrival, we entered the reception lobby amid a spat between hotel management and a group of guests. I don't know the full picture but I certainly agree with the guest perspective given our experience. We waited to be greeted, not particularly long, but longer than anticipated. The manager who greeted us was muddled - We explained who we were and that we had afternoon tea booked for 1 pm. We were told to wait until 1 pm whereby we would then be free to roam the resort. Odd, I'd of thought we'd be having afternoon tea at 1 pm seeing as that was the time we had booked. Alas, we waited in the reception area and were provided coffee - fair enough. As 1 pm bids farewell, we decided to speak with Crystal who seemed to be in control of the dining area and bar. She put us right - sat us down, arranged drinks and afternoon tea shortly followed. It was a decent spread, though rather weighted towards sweet treats with only four 'sandwiches' and no other savoury options. It was tasty enough but too much sugar. The waiter boxed the remaining sweet treats for us to enjoy later - brilliant. We head back towards reception to enquire as to when our room would be ready. It had been ready at 1 pm. Okay, understandable, we must have misinterpreted our first interaction at reception. We were shown to the 'Garden Room (30?)'; peaceful, removed from the main building and initially quite impressive. We unpacked and headed to the Spa - included in our booking - for a little relaxation and warmth. Unfortunately, this is the point where things go downhill quickly. Upon entering the spa the receptionist informed us that there had been a 'mare' - short for nightmare - and that both the jacuzzi and steam room(s) were out of order. We were however told that the pool and showers were still operational. Hmm. We stepped into a tepid 'pool', not big enough or deep enough to do more than potter around, clinging to the few jets of water emanating a slightly warmer stream of water. We quickly left - this is worse than our local community swimming centre. We head back to the room to enjoy the cast iron bath instead. At least th

I have been to Charlton house three times over the years, not since it was taken over by Montigo Resorts and can honestly say the experience is wonderful. We were the first customers to eat at the Tigo outdoor restaurant and the BBQ was delightful- we enjoyed the Lamb Koftas, Pulled pork, Mac n Cheese and Slaw. The spa treatments were delightful, special shout out to Christina, and the lovely check in spa lady who used to work for BA! Great time all round and will be back ❤️

Despite several emails, and 0 response, it appears I may have better luck at a resolution through voicing my complaints, and quite frankly horrific experiences, here on Tripadvisor. All I could prewarn before reading the below, is if your considering investing in a membership, please first consider some of the close by competitors, and stay as far away as possible (unless you enjoy facilities in disrepair, frequently being denied access due to 'closed access for private weddings' and incredibly poor customer care). So to begin, I have been a member for 3 or 4 years now, when I joined it was a convenient location for gym/spa access, and the price was incredibly reasonable. This was whilst under old management. When Montigo took over, facilities were closed for weeks whilst renovation was underway. Said renovation left thick glue marks all over the sauna, sauna hand rails which collapsed frequently when used (a sign was literally stuck up for weeks requesting members not to use handrails, seems counterproductive), the steam room does not work and quite frankly smells like feet, the pool is closed almost permanently, and when it is open for use, it's freezing cold. Oh - and the brand new plunge pool is the size of a wheelie bin - and how much compensation did members receive for the 3 weeks while all of this was underway (in which time, we were still paying), none, in fact, they then requested we pay more money to replace our wristbands with new aesthetically pleasing Montigo branded bands. Needless to say, my first complaint surrounding this issue was unheard for many weeks. The prices then saw a huge hike - membership shot from £60 a month to over £100. I would have no issue with this if the facilities had improved, or even just maintained standard, but to pay more for services I truly believe would not pass a health and safety check (that's if they are working that day) is quite frankly appalling. So on to my most recent complaint, seeing as it is being actively ignored. 2 weeks ago we received an email to inform us the spa and gym would be closed this weekend, all weekend, for a private wedding. I do assume this wedding was booked quite a bit in advance of these two weeks, so thank goodness they remembered to let us know. Better late then never, right? Although we have paid to use the facilities this weekend, unfortunately we are not allowed in. Imagine that, paying for a new car and being told by the dealership actually, you aren't allowed to drive it this weekend, we'd like to hire it out as an Uber, sorry. Almost laughable, but not as laughable as lining your pockets with money for a service you are refusing to provide. Illegal, as not contractually agreed, and unlike many of the day to day inconveniences, I do refuse to let this one slide. You are not a charity, and I am not in a charitable mood. Now, I can see on previous reviews (i.e, one gentleman stating your hot tub was less active then a fart in a bath), you have slated their u
