We have now stayed at the Grand Hotel seven times in the last couple of years. We choose to keep coming back for many reasons. For me, St. Anne’s-on-Sea was a favourite destination for happy childhood holidays in the 1970s. I still love it. It’s kept its essential British seaside town characteristics, with its wide stretch of sandy beach and huge marine horizon, broad promenade, and many handsome Victorian buildings of which the Grand Hotel is one of the best examples. Internally the building retains its spacious Victorian grandeur without compromising modern standards of comfort, convenience and cosiness. It is obviously maintained with meticulous attention to detail and is spotlessly clean. We have become used to seeing many of the same members of staff at each visit. It’s reassuring, a sure indication of a well-run business with owners that must be providing fair terms of employment and good working conditions for their employees. The staff are all and always professional, friendly and efficient. The excellent food and service at Café Grand keep us coming back for more. The menu is varied and more than sufficient for all tastes, but it is particularly important to us that Café Grand currently has a chef with an apparent special interest in plant-based food. Providing plant-based dishes for us on request, the chef has produced some truly wonderful and varied vegan cuisine, prepared not just with skill, but clearly also with imagination and genuine passion.
