Royal South Luangwa Safaris Lodge ★★★
Flatdogs Camp ★★★
"We stayed 4 nights at Flatdogs on our recent visit to Zambia and were blown away by the experience. The camp is in a beautiful location; on the banks of the Luangwa river and only 5 minutes from the entrance to the South Luangwa National Park. This means that no time is wasted getting into the park and wildlife frequently wanders through the camp itself. The guiding provided by Flatdogs was excellent but the same could be said of every member of staff at the camp. Whilst we don't have a massive amount of experience of safari camps, we agreed that this was the friendliest we had ever stayed at. Our tent overlooked the Luangwa river and was very comfortable. The restaurant was excellent with a good choice of really good food and the (at least to us) unusual advantage of having flexible mealtimes. I do hope we get to return to South Luangwa and, frankly, I couldn't imagine wanting to stay anywhere else if we do."
Camp Sabali ★★★★
"Had a memorable time relaxing in the capable hands at Camp Sabali. The Emerald season gives a completey different experience in Luangwa as the rains transform the landscape into a verdant panorama. Camp Sabali is a beautiful set of six boutique tents set just a few metres from the Luangwa River. Super comfortable and magical space to listen to the hippos sing or have elephants wander through camp. It's a wonderful set-up - owned and run by the affable, and passionate Leon. His knowledge of bird species and the local flora and fauna is incredibly enlightening. The onsite Sabali team of Elvis and Rhoda deliver a happy, attentive and personal service while Mary cooks up delicious and well presented dishes. High tea, elevenses, and sundowners along the river banks - totally immersive stuff from Camp Sabali. Daily game drives were with our knowledgeable and fun guide Issac. He was full of information, not only about the larger species that draw most visitors, but also about the geographical shaping of the park, numerous birds, plants, river courses, and interaction between the animals. He'll teach you to listen for the alarm calls and watching the sky for scavengers. Thank you Leon (Seb & Ash) for an unforgettable stay at the excellent Camp Sabali. Highly recommended stay in South Luangwa. See you next time!"
Mopani Safari Lodge ★★★★
"Locations is good, 15-20mins to the park entrance gate. It has a river at the back which attracts many animals. Our room also faced the river and lagoon. Food was excellent, it was being customized to personal choices to some extent. Safaris were amazing, our guide Ackim was very knowledgeable. We saw leopards, lions, wildogs, hyenas, girrafes, buffalos, hippos, zebras, and many other smaller animals. Overall great experience with nice hospitality !!"
Shawa Luangwa Camp ★★★
"I tavelled solo with Green Safaris for two weeks in July. Lower Zambezi at Sausage Tree, Chisa Busanga Camp, Shawa Luangwa Camp and Likoma Island in Malawi. I had a totally fabulous time at all three camps in Zambia. Great design, caring kind staff and delicious food. I palled up with an English couple and we had the best time. So much fun. At Shawa we shared a vehicle and fantastic guide Jack Sparrow. Jack is so passionate about nature and the wildlife. Jack was determined to ensure that we had the best time. Morning drives, night drives and beautiful spots for sundowners. Jack is an enthusiast and he arranged for us to watch the World Cup Final in the staff room. A memorable occasion fueled by much laughter and wine. The scenery was amazing and the elephants and rhino population prodigious. I did not feel alone for one minute. A beautiful lunch was set up for me on the deck. Heaven drinking a glass of rose and looking at elephants wander across the bank on the other side. I hold a special place in my heart for Shawa and the lovely team."
