"Three nights, 29 August to 1 September, and the high point of a fortnight through Normandy and Brittany in which we stayed in some very good houses. Boucéel is a family home rather than a hotel, and that is the whole point of it. The house is beautiful, the park repays getting up early for, and the staff met every awkward request we made — a take-away breakfast before a dawn start for Mont-Saint-Michel, flowers in the room for my wife's birthday — quickly and graciously. Very few houses answer like that. Two things a prospective guest should know. First, there is no restaurant here in the ordinary sense: dinner exists only on the evenings the chef comes in to cook the guest table in the old farmhouse, and there is no lunch at all. That chef is genuinely excellent — two of the best meals of our trip — but he does not cook every night, and the château sits in open countryside a good drive from anywhere. Plan your meals before you arrive, and ask the house which evenings the table is running. Second, breakfast is modest; pleasant, but smaller than the setting leads you to expect. Everything else was faultless. We are already looking at coming back next year."

After the shower leaked, the receptionist was kind enough to move me to another room, which saved my sleep."

"If you wanna enjoy the beauty of Mt St Michel I highly recommend you this hotel. Located in a small city near the monument, you will have a warm welcome from the staff and you will be able to enjoy the beauty of this hotel. Its all charming and vintage style with nice stairs to go to your room (there is elevator too). The rooms are cozy and comfortable (be careful in summer there is no AC but we got the staff bring a fan to our door). The breakfast is typical french style and so good, the products are fresh and tasty. The staff of the hotel is so so nice and helpful. I definitely recommend it"
