Sacred Rock Inn

We spent an amazing weekend in Mendocino County; in Elk at the Sacred Rock Inn. A lovely property overlooking the ocean-all rooms have glorious views. The staff is warm and professional. The lobby has a wonderful shop of food (snacks) and beverages including local wine. Two restaurants-the Elk for breakfast and lunch is terrific-great service, fun waiters, and delicious food. The other is the Greenwood restaurant-amazing dishes that look beautiful and taste the same (favorite was the Uni Pasta, asparagus appetizer) with an excellent wine list curated by Natasha, who clearly knows both local wines and international gems. The hotel is also within the town of Elk/Greenwood and you can walk to explore; including to Greenwood beach. We'll be back! What a treasure.

Since 1994 I have been coming to Sacred Rock to getaway from civilization. It was formerly the Greenwood Pier Inn. My wife (now deceased) got married in this spot in 1995. We came up here to celebrate our anniversary and birthdays, and valentines day etc. But now I come up here solo. This is the most wonderful place on earth if you want to stare at the ocean. The staff leave you alone. The cabins where I usually stay is about 100 yards away from HWY 1 so you do not hear sound of cars passing by. They remodeled all the buildings and were closed down for about three years, and opened couple of years ago. Everything is modernized inside and out, but glad they still kept the charm and atmosphere of the resort. I come to this place every three to four months to be alone and sit on the deck or in the room when cold, and read, write, sleep, sip my wine or beer. Getaway from people. The cabins are right on the cliff so the ocean waves are crashing right below you. Can lay out on the sunny deck and have no a care in the world. As with most things pricing of things go up over the years, and same with the price per night is kinda steep. But it is well worth the cost.

My husband took me here for a special birthday. This place has amazing views, and the room was lovely and well-equipped (lots of snacks, water and fresh cream included with room), and a delightful staff! When we first arrived we were greeted by Donna. She immediately confirmed we had chosen the right place to stay. She was extremely welcoming and knowledgeable. She gave us a tour of the beautiful grounds and thoroughly explained all the details of the room etc. There are two restaurants on the property. The Elk house for breakfast/lunch and the Greenwood for dinner. Both were excellent with the Greenwood standing out as one of the best places we've every eaten. All the staff was amazing. We will definitely be returning to this special place!
