Palmyrah House

A very special place to stay. Rooms are very appointed, food is fabulous and the surrounds amazing. You don’t even need to leave the property to find some amazing birds. Internet is fast and efficient and the staff are wonderful. I may not have these names right but the guys in the restaurant are so friendly and helpful. Thanks to Canicius, Nithushan and Udara and thanks to the resident naturalist and manager Indika (Inhope that’s right) who ordered a very special celebration when he heard I had found my 1000th bird. A visit I will never forget.Thank you all.

The Palmyrah House situated in the Talaimannar island is a small but a wonderful place to stay during your visit at mannar. From the entrance you feel the calmness irrespective of it being located in the dry zone. The hotel is designed in such a manner that you are staying in a forest. Its all about environment. The rooms are designed as villas so you will have your own privacy. Also the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Though the food was served as set menu, every dish was unique and delicious. There is a small yet beautiful swimming pool surrounded by lot of trees and bushes. There is a gymnasium and a library with a game zone which are open 24 hours. The staff is amazing with positive and friendly vibes. Special shout out to Udara who gave lot of insights on the places to viait in talaimannar to make our trip a memorable one. Simply, m The Palmyra House is a small hotel packed with all what you expect for a vacation in one place.

We selected the Palmyrah House as the best option for visiting Mannar Island. Our stay started well, the rooms are large and well appointed although both the room and common areas could do with having more attention paid to maintenance issues. We went to have a pre dinner drink and discovered the only place we could sit was our dining table and that the hotel had no ice for our selected drinks. After that hiccup the rest of the evening went well with good service and food. It was our second night that it all went wrong. Service in the dining room was very slow with no member of staff visible for extended periods. Having chosen 7:30 for our dinner and chosen our food at breakfast it was after 8pm when our first course arrived. Another lengthy wait ensued before the main course at 8:45. The food - chicken with noodles was barely above room temperature and the chicken looked as though it may have been reheated. After a couple of mouthfuls we abandoned the food making the server aware of our dissatisfaction. The next morning the service changed again and the staff could not do enough for us a breakfast bring us extra items to sample. It appears that this hotel is hit and miss and on a good day it is good and on a bad day it is terrible. There was a final twist to this tale. Having moved on to the next hotel we were both struck down with food poisoning that afternoon. The only food and drink we had had in over 48 hours had been from the Palmyrah House. We were puzzled when our guide reported identical symptoms until we found out that they had provided his dinner too and that had contained chicken. This episode meant that we missed meals we had already paid for at our next hotel and lost a day of activities whilst we recovered. This was our fifth visit to Sri Lanka and the first time we have ever had a problem due to the food.

Our group of friends and our grown children spent three memorable nights at Palmyrah House. Indika, Janslen, Canicius, Udara, Nithu, and the rest of the outstanding staff made us feel completely at home. The beautifully serene setting features a wind-swept landscape unique to this large island. Even outside the migratory bird season, we spotted many resident bird species. Our rooms were spacious, immaculate, and highly comfortable. A true highlight of the property is the boarded, winding pathway through the unspoiled grassland, which is truly magical by day or night. Chef Kamal’s culinary talents are beyond words. Every meal was unique, showcasing the absolute best of Northern flavours not found anywhere else on the island, and featuring the freshest seafood. During our stay, two couples in our group were celebrating belated 25th and 43rd wedding anniversaries. The staff went completely out of their way to organize a magical seafood BBQ for us. We cannot thank the entire team enough from the bottom of our hearts for making these celebrations so unforgettable. Highly recommended!

It’s a beautiful location which is so clean, calm and quiet. The staff is so friendly and professional. Food was great. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. One of the best family outings we ever had 😍

We had an excellent stay in the deluxe room! The modern room was spacious for 3 people and very clean! The view was great, such a breathtaking place in the forest! We were actually able to see monkeys! The staff were very friendly and accommodating, especially Canish, Nithushan and Udra! We highly recommend this place and will be back!

We, a group of 5 had a fantastic stay in Palmyrah House on 11/12 March 2025. Nice food, fabulous rooms. The cherry on top of the cake was the complementary night walk we had with hotel naturalist. We saw a few grey slender lorrises and wild cats! A great place to stay if you are to see flemingos. Must preserve those scrub forested area for conservation of those endangered animal species.

We stayed in Palmairah house for 24 hrs on our way to Jaffna. The hotel is well maintained and blended very well with the natural environment - the rooms were very comfortable and clean. The food was delicious, especially the Jaffna crab curry we had for lunch. The Service was excellent- special mention goes to Udara, Nithushan and Concius who went out of their way to make our visit a memorable one. Our only regret is that we hadn’t planned a longer stay.
