One thing to note is that this is a strictly vegetarian hotel, and non-vegetarian food is not permitted, even if brought from outside. The complimentary breakfast is very basic and does not cater to international tastes. The breakfast options are limited, but still sufficient for a simple meal. The staff are friendly, courteous, and always willing to help. Overall, this is a good property and a worthwhile choice for anyone looking for a comfortable stay in a convenient location."

"Receptionist staff Mr. Luke Parera and the front desk manager were very rude and they treated us with very unacceptable behaviour. They promised us with the best service while booking but during our staff we were provided with low facilities. We booked super deluxe room but we were given very low standard rooms. "This is a historically important location in Matheran.  Ratheesh and his business partner were so welcoming and helpful and the accommodation is so full of character. For a truly “green” and unique stay in a totally unique location, the Verandah in the Forest is absolutely a must. This is undoubtedly the place to stay in Matheran if you can get a room - would suggest booking early so as not to miss the chance to stay here - and is so much more than a hotel. Food was superb and because of the size and layout, never seemed busy. Quiet and relaxing stay.  As there’s no phone signal in Matheran Hill Station I’d suggest contacting Ratheesh before making the ascent to the hill station for location instructions. There is wi-fi at the Verandah in the Forest. "

"We stayed for one night at Horseland Hotel in Matheran and had a pleasant overall experience. The rooms are spacious and clean, but they are quite old and definitely need revamping. The furniture, bed, and mattress feel dated and could use an upgrade. The bathroom was clean and well maintained, although the faucets and fittings are old-fashioned. Hot water is available only during fixed timings (8am–11am and 5pm–7pm). Basic amenities like towels and soap are provided. Since we visited over the weekend, the hotel had arranged musical games, housie, DJ night, and a campfire. These activities were very entertaining and added a lively touch to the stay. There isn’t much of a view from most rooms except those close to the pool. The swimming pool is well maintained and ideal for a good swim. There’s also a small plunge pool for kids. Swimming costumes and tubes are available on rent. The staff was polite and helpful throughout our stay. The highlight of this hotel is definitely the food. If you are not planning to explore restaurants outside, I highly recommend opting for the all-meals package. The lunch and dinner spreads had a wide variety and tasted excellent. Breakfast was also good. The location is another plus point — close to the Matheran market and within walking distance from the Matheran railway station. Popular attractions like Echo Point and Charlotte Lake are also nearby. Overall, a good stay mainly because of the food, staff hospitality, and weekend entertainment. The property would greatly benefit from room renovations."
