Mermaid Beach Hotels with Breakfast

I very rarely give a negative review but after reading 1600 reviews before booking this resort thinking it would be fantastic unfortunately I cannot give this more than a 2-star review. We are very disappointed. The room itself was good and clean however there were cockroaches in the kitchen and bathroom. We stayed as a family of 4 in a 2 bedded room and were only given one towel each. One would think that housekeeping would change towels each day but we did not see a housekeeper in our stairwell of rooms once! We had to wash the towels that were in the room when we arrived so they weren't soaking wet and we had no bin bags to change the rubbish over once the bin was full. Checking in - you have to pay a $200 bond regardless. If you are travelling with a larger family, good luck because you go up 4-5 flights of stairs. No there are no lifts. Parking - is free and the parking spot is dedicated to your room number however it's so unsafe with the corners. If people aren't paying attention it's an accident waiting to happen. The kids are- great for the kids. This is why we booked it. They have endless but the 2 kids small slides but if your child is small, again an accident waiting to happen cos they can plough themselves straight into the wall, so this was unsafe. fun Your staff and or lifeguards if you want to call them then are qualified. I had to ask 2 guards where we could get some pool towels only to be told she didn't know because she was new. I'm sorry but do your staff get a work orientation day to tell them where things are if needed etc, no. She had to ask 2 other staff members before we got our answer only to find out we had to walk over to reception which is on the other side of the resort next to the other building to get one. Then, we were charged $5 for each towel. Absolute joke considering we paid $400 a night. Dining-in option at the cafe, I call it a cafe because it wasn't a restaurant. The staff (especially the one with long blond hair) was rude and arrogant towards us because we asked a couple of Qs about the size of the meals and all we got in return was rudeness. ‘MEH’ Food is over priced. We ended up deciding to do the takeaway option as the area is cluttered and too small. It was pretty sad actually, especially again for what you pay. Check Out Day - rude front desk staff. Only one working the desk at a busy time of the day. When I asked if they could take the money out of our meal we billed for the room we were told it wasn't an option and we had to pay the full amount on the spot. Again rude and she had an attitude. Checking out of our room - you are EXPECTED to trace ALL your rubbish. It's too much for house keeping or if you even have housekeepers because we didn't see one the whole time. And.… going down 4 flights of stairs was a total pain and inconvenience, again for $400 a night. We shouldn't be expected to do that. We won't stay again. We booked here unexpectedly without reading anything about the motel...So was unsure about what we will find....have to say was very pleasantly surprised, then place is gorgeous. The manager and his son were nice. The room was large with kitchenette and a nice sized bathroom. There is a car park in the front or in the back , we had ours in the back which is safer IMO than off a busy street. The room was at the back so we didn't hear any street noise at all, bed was comfortable and shower water pressure was good.. It has a small pool and a great courtyard. Bus stop is just in front of the motel with a plaza right across the road, and a series of restaurants 3 mins walk away. The beach is less than 5 mins walk and you can easily walk to Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach in 10 -15 mis.. Next door is a cafe where you can also purchase b/f if need be.. Only thing is the wi fi was no good ... other than that the motel is in a great location...would happily stay there again.

Brown by name and brown by nature! We stayed here one night to go to a concert. It’s old, dirty, had unwashed floors, sand in beds, smear stains on curtains and questionable customers in the other units. To be quite honest we would’ve be better off sleeping in our car or at the beach rather than forking out a ridiculous amount of money for this dodgy place. The whole complex needs to be hit with a bulldozer.

The location was not the best as there was not a lot of shops nearby, anyways the rating was not based on that. The pool area was fantastic and the vibe from the outside overall presented well, produced a good holiday house vibe, inside the apartment is spacious however quite a few letdowns that I picked on during the stay, little things do matter * Furnitures are old and bring down the whole experience of the stay in a so-called 4 star accommodation * No air-conditioning in. Bedrooms, we were lucky this year it wasn't too hot during Christmas, so could live with it. * Pedestrian entrance needs to be improved, I hit my head on the wall light which is fixed too low while trying to dodge the plant grown over the path. * Unpleasant Registration Form, basically ”orders” you to do certain things otherwise threat you with a charge, straight away first impression gone first day when I saw this, see attached photo

Our stay here was OK but not brilliant. Although we had paid for the room we got an email about two days before saying if we did not pay the $100 bond our booking could be cancelled. We tried unsuccessfully for hours to contact them by phone and in the end the hotel we were staying in up the coast managed to contact them on our behalf and pay the bond. We were travelling all over Australia and this was the only hotel that wanted a bond before we even arrived and what for I am not quite sure! We were told which room we were in and that it would be open with the key inside. What happened if someone just helped themselves to stuff in the room and we got charged from the bond? Parking was a bit of a nightmare as there are not enough spaces for the rooms, we managed to squeeze our car into one of the spaces but were constantly worried about damage. Within walking distances to lots of shops, bars and restaurants and of course the beach. Room was OK although the carpets could do with replacing. It was not one of the best places we stayed in but it served a purpose for 2 nights. We got the bond back within 24 hours but were not happy about having to pay this. Would not stay here again.

Very good service Lillian was great, she helped us with a unit for a few hours on our arrival as we were early arriving and our unit was not ready for us ,,this was very good of her as we flew from Perth on the midnight flight and were very tired .We will stay there again . close to all amenities shops transport etc, thanks again to Lillian and her staff Rex and Maureen

My partner and I came from Victoria and since the beginning before we even arrived the hospitality provided by Portobello was unmatched. During all the uncertainty of COVID, we weren’t sure whether we would end up arriving or not. The owners (Dorelle and Marty) went out of their way to help ease our worries, letting us know that they wouldn't take any payments before we arrived. Upon arrival they greeted us at the reception, and were very helpful and friendly, giving us a run down of the area and the best places throughout Broadbeach and surfers paradise. When our hot water was playing up, they offered the room next to us to be able to use until our room was back up and running again. You couldn’t ask for more! The room itself has everything you need, from a microwave and an oven to a washing machine, dryer and a comfortable bed to sleep on! The location was perfect, being 200 metres from The giant Shopping complex and only a few blocks down from the broad beach shops and food strip. The beach is only a short walk and there is a private back entrance to get in and out of the place. Not to mention the tram and bus stop was right across the road, making it easy to get to the big theme parks and surfers Paradise. We didn’t have to travel far for everything we needed! On our final day they allowed us to keep our room till 1pm until we left for our flight, instead of the normal check out at 10am. And when our flights got delayed they provided us the room next door to be able to leave our bags and relax until we had to leave again. Both Dorelle and Marty went above and beyond with everything they did for us, and I would happily stay there again without a second thought. My partner and I are very thankful and would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to enjoy an affordable and cozy getaway.

WOW what a delightful surprise, it is a fabulous boutique Motel that has been renovated beautifully to a high standard. The room was light and airy with its own fridge, coffee machine, kettle, toaster and microwave. There was also cutlery, crockery and everything we needed to be self sufficient. The bed was comfortable and the shower was fabulous. The grounds were well maintained with an inviting looking pool, they had there own coffee van open each morning on site which was very handy, parking was easy and we got a spot each time we returned to the property. It was in a fabulous location a couple of streets from the beach and there were restaurants within walking distance. Although it is located on the Gold Coast Highway there was very little if any traffic noise. We will definitely stay at this Motel again it was an amazing find and I would highly recommend it to other travellers.

Good location motel for families, in front of Gold Coast Highway that close to the bus stop to go to airport or to the boardbeach south, where we can easily hop in to the trem / bus to central (surfer paradise, carvill / cypress ave) or Movie World. The motel have swimming pool and big bed with complete facilities for families (netflix, iron, toaster, microwave, refrigerator, utensils) and also has a 70 model bathroom in very clean condition. Besides hotels they have 24 night owl supermarket and many restourante (italia, japanese, ice cream etc) with 5 mins walk distance to Mermaid beach at the end of the road.
